Northern Premier League club have licence to play suspended with next two games called off

Northern Premier League club Marske United have their licence to play suspended with the next two games now being called off.

A brief statement by both the league and the club emerged on Friday evening, less than 24 hours before they were due to welcome Worksop Town.

Marske’s game against Lancaster City has also been postponed, with the matter raising more questions than answers especially with the statements given.

Marske currently sit 19th in the Northern Premier League Premier Division with 15 points from 18 games played.

Marske United say: “Late this afternoon the club received notification from the northern premier league that our license to play has been suspended.

“This was immediately followed by a request for further information from the league regarding the recent change in structure following the departure of the previous chairman.

“As a result, our upcoming home fixtures against Worksop Town and Lancaster City have been postponed.

“The club is co-operating fully and our team of volunteers are working hard to compile the information requested.

“We are working to resolve the issue in cooperation with the league and the football association, who have been contacted for further guidance.”

The NPL said: “The Northern Premier League has this afternoon postponed the next two scheduled fixtures of Marske United FC, whilst enquiries in to the recently announced take-over are made. The League will make no further comment in this regard.”

This is how fans reacted as the Northern Premier League club have their licence to play suspended with the next two games called off…

@AnleyBrian: Visited last season when you played Gainsborough as found myself in the area. Nice set up and was made very welcome. Best wishes going forward. Luton Town fan

@SAFCsharpy: What’s happened here? Hopefully this gets sorted.

@mrbenoconnor_: Some more clarity would be nice. Surely the whole point of ‘fan ownership’ is that everything is transparent? Instead we get a vague statement and everyone wonders whether the club even has a future. Hope everything’s sorted and we can play again soon

@JamesFairley8: What a shame to see but sure everyone involved with the club will pull it round and get everything sorted as it means so much! 🤞🏼

@Grimbiniho: This doesn’t sound good…

@matthew151276: Wtf!!! How have the club gone ahead without getting league approval beforehand!! This does not make us look good or professional!

@terrystones1972: Hope you get sorted… great club!

@xReeceL2002: Switched to a fan ownership without informing the league. What on earth?

@Stangoe: Would hate to see any long term issues here. But it doesn’t sound brilliant

@Andrew_White14: How’ve I paid to demote my local club 🥲

@BobbyRooneyy: Gutted for any side to be interrupted by ownership issues. Hopefully a speedy resolution soon 👍🏽

@SGC501: Love Marske U go and watch them twice a year but how amateurish is this. Total lack of judgement

@kieranjcrossman: What the fuck has gone on here then

@MichaelCon9444: Hope you get it sorted wonderful club

@MikeyDfc93: The fuck happening here man some of my pals play for those lot!

@adallin: This does not sound good

@joe_willet: What the fuck is going on?

@SamTranter12: Well and truly fucked

@davetait1981: Complete farce

@DavidWayneBoyes: Oh shit 😳

@helieboro: 😳 fck sake

@CoulthardGraeme: “Statement”….. No idea what has gone on but a league suspending a member club without (public) explanation is…. 🤷‍♂️ New directors/MU Ltd announced as active 30th Nov, game vs Rylands would have gone ahead on 5th Dec, club suspended on 8th Dec. Get better comms at step 5,6,7.

Citamo: Next two games postponed. Club statement says the club’s licence to play has been removed. Apparently something the authorities don’t like about the recent restructuring of the club.

Manchester Warrior: Never seen this happen before in football, is this an NPL specific rule? Would have thought that the Marske club may have breached some standardised rules. Seems they’ve undergone a mid season corporate restructuring and maybe not yet got around to obtaining NPL or FA approval. Believe Marske recently made a new share issue to help finance the changed set up.

ramblingrover: No it’s part of the Standardised Rules. They’ve just transferred to a new limited company in which shares are being sold. So they have to satisfy the leagues board around finances and ownership and get the FA’s approval. Also need to publish ownership details in a certain form. I’m guessing that they’ve not jumped through those hoops to the NPL’s satisfaction, looking at some of the details available online I’m not really surprised the league want’s a close look as they’ve not revealed all their directors.
