Ninth tier club sign a second former Championship player

Ninth tier club Hanley Town sign up a second former Championship player, and now they boast a squad with huge amounts of EFL experience.

The Midland League Premier Division outfit have announced the signing of striker Chris Dagnall, who’ll link up with new player-boss Carl Dickinson when his current deal at Yeovil Town runs out this summer.

It’s a significant coup for the club as they secure the signing of a player who has also plied his trade with the likes of Rochdale, Scunthorpe, Barnsley, Tranmere, Bradford, Coventry, Leyton Orient, Bury, Hibernian and Crewe Alexandra.

The 35-year-old joined National League Yeovil for a second stint last November, following a brief spell at Ashton United.

CLUB STATEMENT:

The club have today continued preparations for the 2021/22 season by securing the signing of experienced striker Chris Dagnall.

Dagnall, who played along side new manager Carl Dickinson at Yeovil Town last season will join the club when his current deal with Yeovil expires.

Speaking with the club’s media Chris said: “I’m excited, after speaking to Carl and the Chairman it’s a really exciting project that they have got going on and I’m happy to be a part of it.”

Mentioning his time at Yeovil he said: “He’s been a massive influence, me and Carl spoke quite a bit towards the end of last season about once he agreed to become the manager here and what he planned to do going forward, asked if I would be interested.”

“With me not being too far locally to the area it was definitely something that interested me after a few discussions I’m here.”

Dagnall brings a wealth of experience to the club locally being best known for his stint at Crewe Alexandra between 2016-18.

He hopes this will help him as well as the club: “I’ve played a lot of games, got 17/18 years’ experience to help the lads out, especially the younger lads, there’s that and a few goals here and there to help.”

Everyone at the club would like to wish Dagnall a warm welcome.
