Newcastle fans give a damning reaction to Eddie Howe’s post-match interview on their 3-2 defeat at Chelsea on Monday night.
Nicolas Jackson flicked home Cole Palmer’s shot after just six minutes, before Alexander Isak deservedly got an equalising for Newcastle at the end of the first half.
Palmer fired Chelsea back ahead after the break, before Mykhailo Mudryk netted a third; then Jacob Murphy netted a late reply.
The result means that Chelsea are 11th in the Premier League with 39 points, three away from Brighton who sit 8th with a game in hand. Newcastle are 10th with 40 points and have also played a game more than Chelsea, you can keep up to date with live soccer scores here.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to Sky Sports: “It was a strange game, frustrating conceding from their first attack. I thought we were really good in spells, but not good enough overall. I thought the goals we conceded were really poor.
“We were competitive, but the final ball was not good enough. Their first goal was out of nothing, all three goals [conceded] have the similar characteristics and we didn’t defend these situations well enough and you are going to lose if you do that.
“It’s a similar feeling over the last few months on the road. We know with the quality of players to defend better than that. It was not a bad performance, just inconsistent at times. There’s promise that we can hit the heights, but we’re not doing it enough.”
On injuries to Anthony Gordon and Dan Burn: “Anthony has a knee injury. There was no moment, he just felt it and we don’t know how bad he is. It happened quite early in the game, no moment when he felt the injury, it was just a pain there. Dan Burn, I don’t think he is too bad.”
On right-back Tino Livramento impressing in front of England manager Gareth Southgate: “Tino is not far away [from a call-up]. He’s got huge competition in that area and I’m sure he will be in the frame. He has all the quality, he attacked very well in the first half, it was a good performance from him.”

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “I thought it was a game in the balance and an open game. The game got away from us with the goals we conceded which were really poor from our perspective – they were self-induced.
“Wherever you play you have to pride yourself being tight and I don’t think Chelsea had an abundance of chances tonight. But the way the goals came from our perspective is hugely frustrating as we know the details have to get better.
“There was a lot of good in our performance I thought we attacked well with good fluency in our play and getting into dangerous areas – the intention was there. I thought we were in total control of the game, but certainly stuff for us to look at.”
On Dan Burn and Anthony Gordon injury concerns: “I think Burn is OK, but I don’t know that 100%.
“Gordon looks like a knee problem and it doesn’t look too good at the moment – it is unclear.”
Chelsea goalscorer Cole Palmer, speaking to Sky Sports, says: “We’ve had some difficult results, obviously the cup final against Liverpool so to get the points is vital. We showed passion, courage winning the second ball and not getting bullied. As a young team we’re going to make mistakes.”
On moving from Manchester City to Chelsea last summer: “I thought I was ready to play football week in, week out and that’s the reason. I just wanted to showcase my ability and thankfully it has paid off. It was a very difficult decision to leave City, I was there since six years old. I was ready to play football, had a chat with my family, had a chat with the club and moved to Chelsea.”
On getting into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euros: “If you had told me at the start of the season I had a chance to go to the Euros I wouldn’t have believed it. I will just take it each game as it comes and see what happens in the summer.”
On Chelsea’s critics: “There’s so much talent around Chelsea that the fans don’t see and you [the media] don’t see. If not next season, the season after, you will see it sooner or later. We’re still in the FA Cup and hopefully win on Sunday to get to Wembley again.”
"It was all I had ever known… thankfully it's paying off!"

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “Football, sometimes you enjoy and sometimes you suffer.
“We played a very good team with amazing players, it was really tough. We made the victory, but we keep looking forward and moving forward – the most important is the three points.
“It is important for offensive players to feel the confidence and we know we can win games scoring goals, but a little disappointed the way we conceded with two mistakes that should never happen, but that is how we become more mature – we need to keep pushing.”
On form: “The only difficult result was extra-time [League Cup final against Liverpool].
“I cannot do anything of the frustration of last season, last season was a nightmare to win a game here [Stamford Bridge] now we are winning games and we are solid.
“We are building something different and we need to accept it. Today the fans were good, we need to keep moving and being strong.”
“We need to build this relationship with the fans… they were behind us” 💪

As mentioned, Newcastle fans give a damning reaction to Eddie Howe’s post-match interview on the 3-2 defeat at Chelsea…
@AdamP1242: Why are you starting Burn and Longstaff every game ????
@agbnufc_: We get battered most places we go.
@Nufc2Everything: Lots of good? Is he taking the actual piss. Why is he starting Sean Longstaff he stank the place out again today and Lewis miley is streets ahead of him another assist for the lad tonight and he only played 10 minutes. Going backwards not forwards that Chelsea side is bang average and we made them look like prime Chelsea. Massive changes needed at this club going forwards
@JordToon: Stop playing certain players, we all know how I’m on about
@JKOversion1: He’s a getting a bit Brucey if you ask me. In full denial mode pretty much. Mate, we were shocking!!!
@joshnufc1_: How can he say there’s lots of good we were shite
@xoHelios: A lot of uncharacteristic performances over the past couple months from ur perspective Eddie maybe it should be the norm now due to the fact we are the worst defence in the league over the past 3 months
@HilkiaJacobs: Howe making the same mistakes repeatedly, we were exposed on the left with Burn’s lack of pace, Longstaff was dead average lost the ball a lot, Murphy should’ve started ahead of Almiron his crosses were excellent, Botman is out of form Lascelles has had a far better season.
@R150179: Totally disagree with Eddie here. That performance was lacking in every area. The fact he doesn’t address that and hasn’t with all of our defeats this season is concerning. We are playing like a mid table team and that is where we will finish.
@YorkGeordienufc: His interviews are becoming repetitive and boring now. He pretty much has the same assessment every time we lose, yet nothing changes.
@Nufc__Tom: Howay man how can you start a post match interview with ‘lots of good’ after that
@JonSadler8: He’s watched a different game to me! Other than the 2 goals we scored I’m struggling to see any good from that performance.
@Langas_1: Lots of good? Eddie we we’re absolutely dreadful
@RobOliv87546325: Best to be cruel to be kind. Howe will not be a manager to have a regular European team and challenge for trophies. His selections, tactics, player management and transfers are all questionable
@Cosseycj: Same excuses about basic errors in defending in which we are not learning from, either the players arnt listening learning from them or something fundamentally wrong, for me a lot of players have got too comfortable
@Adrian6nufc: 10 minutes of trying doesn’t win 90 minutes when your being passive with no pressing or thought on and off the ball. For 60 minutes we were embarrassing.
@SJDougle: Bored of it now. The whole game my words “typical Newcastle”
@DavidBartell18: Find this to be a bit worrying!
@Toontweeter: Zero positives Eddie – sorry and I’m a very positive fan.
@JohnnyJand: Need a new manager. Burn and Longstaff are local boys but aren’t good enough. Miggy, Wilson, Murphy (hurts to say) and Longstaff need to be sold this summer
@jarramick: How many times have we conceded 3 or more this season….. defensively we are piss poor, the midfield as probably the slowest, and weakest midfield in the league, i feel sorry for isak, he’s far too good for this current team and he’s literally feeding on scraps. Wtf is going on
@marknicols: This is so similar sounding to Pardew/Bruce style comments. #nufc
@gaztoon84: Same old waffle….. it was shocking performance, just say it rather than sugar coat. Does he really mean this?! #NUFC
@Logan14Cameron: If Howe genuinely thinks there was ‘lots of good’ and the ‘goals were out of context with the performance’ then we’re bang in trouble. It was dreadful
@MattyJamesz: “Lots of positives” honestly man just fuck off. We were great last season but teams have us figured out. There is no plan B and the starting 11 is so predictable every week. Out of his depth it seems.
@KarlHall1892: If this is how he is seeing it then it’s no wonder we’re putting in lifting performances away from home. Actually can’t get my head around this perspective. #NUFC
@TOONRafalution: WTF is he talking about? Absolute horse 💩 #nufc
@AdamLittle99: “Lots of good.” Nah, he’s taking the piss now. We know what we’re watching Eddie, and “good” doesn’t even come close. #NUFC
@ryandavid97: Is this not delusion? After watching the 90 minutes of that game, I struggle to see where we were ‘good’. Thought both teams were really poor, us just poorer than Chelsea. We weren’t good in possession at all and midfield totally non existent. Club narrative seems weird #Nufc
@ScottDaley26: Switched this off after he said “lots of good”.
