MOTD viewers have been left stunned by a commentator’s ‘ridiculous’ comment which he made about Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.
It’s been quite a week for the England international, who has campaigned to get free meals to children who need them over half term, retweeting many a business and football club up and down the nation who have offered to help. His Twitter feed is quite something.
On Tuesday, the striker scored the winner as United defeated Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, something the he did to knock out the same opposition last season.
He went into yet another big game on Saturday night, a Premier League clash against Chelsea, though once again, the Red Devils failed to pick up all three points to lift them further away from the relegation zone.
A goalless draw played out at Old Trafford, leaving Man Utd 15th in the table, six points above the drop after five games played. Chelsea however are 6th, two points more than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
On Thursday, 22-year-old Rashford volunteered at a food bank in Manchester to help those in need, as can be seen in the viral tweet below.

The footballer has regularly been told to ‘stick to football’, especially by many Twitter users, however he’s now making a real impact in the fight against child poverty, far bigger than he could have imagined. Putting the government to shame, so much so that politicians are trying to justify themselves and speak out to act as if they were actually doing something about the issue – more like just hitting back because Rashford is showing them up.
Marcus’s efforts away from the pitch this week made him the centre of attention during the build-up to Match of the Day’s coverage of the game on Saturday night.
However, whilst many in the football world praises him for his efforts, Guy Mowbray, who was the commentator for Saturday’s game, delivered a line that didn’t go down well with viewers.
Mowbray introduced Rashford by saying, “whether you agree with his causes or not”.
As if there is a single person out there that is disagreeing with what Rashford is trying to achieve right now.

MOTD viewers stunned by commentator’s ‘ridiculous’ comment about Marcus Rashford, as can be seen in this selection of tweets compiled by GiveMeSport.
“Glad I’m not the only person that heard this and rewound it,” one viewer said.
Another simply wrote: “Speechless”.
“Dunno, feeding hungry kids seems a bit dodgy,” one fan joked.
@Guymowbray who doesn't agree with @MarcusRashford then…?

Glad I'm not the only person that heard this and rewound it… Christ's sake

Honestly I despair at the BBC’s idea of ‘balance’ if they treat feeding hungry children as a divisive issue
— Nooruddean (@BeardedGenius) October 24, 2020
I suppose it gives credence to the fact that children going hungry is in someway acceptable and Rashford starting a campaign against that could be perceived in someway bad. But we all no that’s nonsense because anyone who doesn’t agree with his campaign would be psychopath

This is like the time on Sky Gary Neville called out racism and said it was wrong and the presenter said it was Gary's opinion, not Sky's

This is up there with, "There's good people on both sides". He better be cringing like fuck after saying that.

@1ollielambert see? Exactly what I said. Imagine having an opinion on whether to help feed kids going hungry or not.

They gotta be 50/50 on everything. Like moron.

Jumping off a cliff without a parachute could or could not be a good idea.
Got to appeal to that all-important pro starving children demographic.

Utterly, utterly insane. The BBC is poison for this and many other similar reasons. Normalising depravity.
— DMR ? (@DMRees) October 25, 2020
@GaryLineker Can we have a response to this utter ridiculousness?
— John Ewen (@AjarnJohn) October 24, 2020
Dunno, feeding hungry kids seems a bit dodgy

Guy Mowbray saying “whether you agree with [what Rashford’s doing] or not” there is it, fuck the fuck off Guy
— Emvira??♀️ (@_emilyoram) October 24, 2020
Think Guy Mowbray could of just congratulated Rashford for his efforts rather than adding “if you agree with him or not” line… scared of getting defunded for upsetting someone? #MOTD
