Morgan Rogers calls out Sunderland’s Instagram after posting video of him getting tackled by Trai Hume

Morgan Rogers calls out Sunderland’s Instagram after posting a video of him getting tackled by Trai Hume in the game against Aston Villa.

Despite Sunderland being reduced to ten men after Reinildo’s red card, Hume went unpunished for a tackle into Rogers, with the clip going viral.

Rogers called out the club on Instagram for promoting “dangerous tackles,” expressing frustration after another winless game for Villa, who remain in the Premier League’s bottom three despite Matty Cash’s goal, countered by Wilson Isidor’s equaliser for Sunderland.

Rogers said, as can be seen in a screenshot of his Insta story below: “Great message to send out… dangerous tackles getting highlight reels”

Wilson Isidor cancelled out Matty Cash’s opener, with Aston Villa remaining winless in the Premier League despite scoring their first goal. Sunderland, meanwhile, climb up to 7th after battling to a deserved draw.

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery speaking to BBC Sport: “Frustrated and disappointed a little bit, but not with the result. It should have been easier to take advantage [against 10 players] but we were not playing with our identity, with the ideas we have been building in the last three years.

“With some new players we have to adapt with the players we have, and we know we want to control the game, to dominate but I am disappointed and frustrated more for how we were not achieving our identity.

“There is still work to do with the point we achieved, it’s not enough, of course, after playing with one more player for 60 minutes, we should be happier, we have to work and be demanding, to get our consistency through our demands.”

He added, per the club website: “We are good because we are playing in Europe in the Europa League. We are playing in the Premier League as well and we want to try and keep consistency through the season.

“Our start, we’ve not been doing well. The last three matches have been away and it’s always a challenge to win away.

“We drew and we didn’t lose, that is a positive thing but it’s not enough. We need to create our structure stronger – not only tactically but individually when we are on the field.

“I have to try to analyse with the players and I will be demanding with them. We have to try to recover some confidence.

“We want them to feel comfortable in everything we are doing. Now, I’m a little bit worried, not for the result and how we are in the table, but more so how we are not playing with our identity, trying to dominate and impose with the players we have, playing in our style.”

Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris told BBC Sport: “The value of this one is really important because we had different experiences today.

“We started really well 11 v 11, we were in our gameplan, well connected with the opportunities and were in a good place.

“Then the red card came – but the team reacted really well. It was important to stay 0-0 and then at half-time we decided on a new game plan.

“They did really well with the deep block and it became a set-piece game. Then after we conceded we reacted well again. The way we want to play together, to react, to suffer, we knew this would be the case often.”

He said, per the club website: “It’s a good point against a strong team, especially with 10 men for the majority of the game.

“We had two different parts in this game. I think we started well 11 against 11, we were in our game plan, and the red card changed the dynamic of the game, but we stayed composed.

“It became a different game with a low block, and it was clear that our main chances would come from set pieces.

“I think especially the first 20 minutes of the second half were well managed.

“The red card was possible. It was, I think, a bad reaction, but in the end, we respect the decision.

“We were ready because we’ve worked hard on this deep block before, knowing in the Premier League we’ll have to manage this part of the game properly.

“It was good practice today with 10 men – five, three, one – staying organised, managing triangles and crosses.

“On set pieces, we know we have threats from throws or corner kicks, and we were able to score a goal.

“It’s a really good experience, especially here in Sunderland because we have the players, we have the squad, but we also have our fans, our stadium, and the energy.

“We were 10 men, but in fact we were 11 with this crowd.

“We’re happy to be here, but at the same time we have to be competitive, and I think we showed good character.

“Defending deep for a long period is really important because if you can master this phase, you can travel safely.

“It’s always a reset, but at the same time, we can create foundations through these experiences, and this one was really important.

Here’s how fans reacted as Morgan Rogers calls out Sunderland’s Instagram after posting a video of him getting tackled by Trai Hume…

@_harrymcbeth: Poor this from a fellow pro. It’s not a dangerous challenge, his studs aren’t up, it isn’t high and he gets a touch on the ball. He’s got every right to make that challenge. Hume’s technique is old school and looks unconventional; it doesn’t make it any more dangerous.

@FplMarc: Probably gutted it alerted people to the fact he was actually on the pitch, absolutely anonymous yesterday.

@DbrayArchi: Hilarious that some on here calling this a tackle, Hume, was about three weeks late, watch & clearly Rogers knocks the ball away, for Sunderland to then post this is embarrassing!!!!

@bradlc94: First and foremost the player got the ball, stop whinging and get on with it

@andymc919191: I’m a Villa fan, he got a touch on the ball. Was it hard and probably a bit excessive? Yeah but it wasn’t studs showing and wreckless, Rogers should just concentrate on his form lately rather than all this

@KezzaSAFC: Soft as shite 😂😂😂

@BernardKeavy: This should have been their second red card. Ref bottled it because he’d already given one. How he never even gave a foul and a yellow is beyond me.

@Brandon_A97: Any wonder the game has gone to shit. Watched Trai put in tackles like this for Linfield week in week out, celebrated like a goal. Next thing Rogers will be asking for football to be non-contact 🫠

@Daviddbrownn22: I think the worst thing about this is it now puts the seed of doubt towards trai Hume in a referees mind, after being called out by a name as big as Roger’s. Ref’s no look and go ‘he’s got previous’ for simply putting in a strong challenge

@freddie_x11: grow up 🤣🤣🤣🤣 was a cracking challenge
