A statement on the club’s website read: “Sheffield Wednesday Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Louie Barry from Aston Villa for an undisclosed fee.
“The coveted 23-year-old winger has put pen to paper on a four-year contract at Hillsborough, with a club option of an additional year.
“Barry has significant EFL experience and excelled with Stockport County across three loan spells, during which he registered 29 goals and seven assists in 56 appearances.
“With Championship experience also under his belt, the former Barcelona academy prospect is now ready to call S6 home.”
Barry said: “I’m buzzing and I can’t wait to get started – it’s just about finding a home and this is the place I want to be for the next part of my career.
“It’s now time to settle down and find a home and I think that will come out in my performances as well. I’ve walked into a really warm atmosphere. Getting a good pre-season under my belt is a massive thing to build connections and to get used to the style of play straight away.
“I feel like I can progress at the same speed as the club wants to, which is fantastic. To call a club your own is just a great feeling.”
Sporting Director, Simon Wilson, said: “Louie’s determination to make this move happen has been relentless. He had multiple options available this summer, including opportunities in the Championship, but he was clear from the outset that he wanted a permanent home – and for him, it was only Sheffield Wednesday.
“Henrik, Louie and I all believe in the synergy of this move – the right player joining the right club at the right time. He brings goals, directness and real attacking quality, with attributes that are closely aligned to the playing identity we are building. He has already shown what he can do at this level, but there is much more to come.
“With the stability of a permanent home, our coaching environment and the backing of our supporters, we believe Louie can become an important player for Sheffield Wednesday for many years to come.”
Aston Villa confirmed his departure and added: “Barry joined the club from Barcelona in 2020 and, after scoring on his senior debut against Liverpool in the FA Cup, would go on to lift the FA Youth Cup with Villa.
“He has since spent time on loan at Ipswich Town, Swindon Town, MK Dons, Salford City, Sheffield United, Hull City and Stockport County, enjoying three successful stints with the latter, helping the Hatters win promotion in 2024 and reach the League One Play-Off Final last term.”

Here’s how fans reacted as Louie Barry gives first interview after sealing move from Aston Villa to Sheffield Wednesday…
@CRMW__: Great signing at this level. They are gonna romp the league and fair fucks to them. Only wish that we were a bit more proactive like this, instead we’re going down the likely road of picking up the scraps in last week of August
@Colo_swfc06: 2 Barry’s in one day, this is the greed they talked about in bible #swfc
@SWFC_Azza: 🎵 Wednesday’s gonna win the league, with Louie Barry! 1, 2, 3, 4! 🎵
@FplBlades: This guy signed a contract with Villa last year. He’ll be on very good money… I understand it’s slightly better than the pensioners they were signing before, but are massive wages something to go straight back to?
@jkanalysis7: There’s going to be a monster squad built here isn’t there.
@ReddishHatter: I know we were never really in the mix for getting him on a permanent transfer but it still feels like a dagger has gone through my heart😭
@LTFCReece: He’s not really torn up any trees since they first spell at Stockport but it is a statement of intent from Wednesday if ever I’ve seen one.
@Tobyypufc: These lot are gonna walk it ain’t they 😅 I am NOT looking forward to going back to Hillsborough #pufc
@WonderEnad: Gotta admit thats a fucking signing that is #htafc
@asyouwereS6: Remember when we was linked on loan when he was firing them in for Stockport and thinking we never get loans like him. Now a season later we’ve signed him on a permanent. What a time to be an owl.
@Kyle_PrenterYT: Okay what is going on? I am not used to this from our Club but I LOVE it!! 🦉
@AreMatthews: Very very good L1 signing and has big potential. I like this new Wednesday a lot.
@isaacsimpsonn: Oh my fuckin god. Wow wow wow. The level this kid has at the level is no joke. Boys a fuckin player and half. #swfc
@AGroundsss: Cracking signing on a permanent too. We all know what he can do in league one. No more loans for him now, he can settle and that will probably bring the best out in him. If he’s anything like his first spell at Stockport he’ll be a hit at Hillsborough #swfc
@BenBarlow_91: Brilliant signing, this. Are we sure this is Sheffield Wednesday? 😂 #swfc
@R0BBIEBCFC1875:
