Middlesbrough, Tranmere, Burton, Accrington joins list of clubs condemning ‘unsavoury scenes’

Middlesbrough, Tranmere, Burton, Accrington joins list of clubs condemning ‘unsavoury scenes’ as protests continue this week.

With just days to go until the 2024/25 season gets underway, more and more statements are being released, expressing their disappointment and disapproval of the behaviour of a minority who have engaged in actions of trashing the towns and cities they live in, smashing shops, fighting with police, sets cars and bins on fire.

The likes of Sheffield United, Rotherham United, Bolton Wanderers, Hull City and Sunderland have previously had their say on the riots they witnessed within the last week.

Clubs are emphasising that such behaviour is unacceptable and has no place in football with clubs pledged to work with local police and other authorities to identify the culprits and take appropriate action against them.

They also state that they will try and maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone as they get set to host the opening games of the new season.

MIDDLESBROUGH STATEMENT:

We utterly condemn the violent and racist scenes we have seen on the streets of Middlesbrough. We will not accept such behaviour in our town or anywhere else.

We in Middlesbrough have a proud and inclusive history. Over the centuries our town and our football club have welcomed people from across the world to come here to work, to study, to raise their families and build our communities. We respect each other and celebrate the fullness and richness of all our diverse histories and cultures.

Those scurrilous individuals – who attacked innocent people, their vehicles, their homes, their businesses, as well as attacking our brave police officers, the new homes in our town and our University- do not represent the true values of the people of Middlesbrough.

Violence will not be accepted in any way, shape or form anywhere in Middlesbrough – not against our historic buildings, not against our institutions and absolutely not against our communities and our people.

We support the strongest possible action against those who have taken part in these awful events and we support the continued efforts of our Police and prosecutors to hold them to account.

Our community, in response to the dreadful events, has already demonstrated its solidarity with those affected by the appalling behaviour of the minority and we resolve to continue to work with them and move forward in the spirit of the best of Middlesbrough, our true character and values.

TRANMERE STATEMENT:

As we get set to welcome the 2024/25 league campaign and the SWA prepare to attend EFL matches up and down the country, I hope we are all united by a renewed sense of hope and optimism for the season to come.

Sadly, in recent days towns and cities across the country have seen some unsavoury scenes that nobody wants to see a repeat of, now or anytime in the future.

Football has a unique ability to bring people together. If you support the Club and its values, you are welcome at Prenton Park whatever your race, religion or political beliefs as long as you treat others with tolerance and respect.

Tranmere has always aimed to create a sense of belonging for people from all backgrounds and provide positive and memorable experiences, whether that be at Prenton Park, at away games or by participating in or through the community programmes that we run.

We pride ourselves on being a welcoming community Club and work to provide a sense of identity, family, and togetherness. It is that football and community spirit that continues to win hearts and minds and why we must do whatever we can to look after and protect it, now more than ever.

Enjoy the new season.

@guyrbailey: We want anyone convicted of offences associated with the hate riots banned.

@EddieBurfi: Ban those convicted #Boro. In attacking the town, its buildings, and worst of all its people, they chose not to belong. They showed no loyalty and no support instead they attacked the heart of the town and the club. Ban then till they rebuild trust through positive actions. #UTB
