Sheffield United issue a statement amid the threat of potential riots with police on alert across towns and cities in the UK.
The Championship outfit have taken measures of closing all areas of their Bramall Lane stadium amid growing unrest with planned protests, provoked shocking violence, including shops being looted and set on fire.
They said: “Sheffield United Football Club is disappointed to announce that all areas of Bramall Lane will close on Wednesday (7th August 2024) at 1pm in anticipation of anti-social behaviour planned in the city.
“Sheffield United places Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) at the heart of our culture and believe racism has no place in Sheffield or anywhere.
“We encourage Blades fans to stand together, united, in these difficult times.”

Police in the UK are preparing for a significant increase in protests and potential riots, with over 100 planned events expected across the country on Wednesday alone.
This number is significantly higher than the initial estimate of 30 protests and now the situation is being closely monitored by law enforcement, with thousands of officers on standby to manage the events.
The protests are anticipated to be widespread, affecting most regions in England and Wales.
Authorities are bracing for a challenging night and are urging the public to stay safe amidst the unrest, with shops and other businesses urged to shut up early.
Police are prepared to respond to more than 100 planned protests and potentially around 30 more counter protests on Wednesday night, with gatherings anticipated in 41 of the 43 police force areas in England and Wales.
3,750 officers from the national policing reserve are on standby to be deployed locally, while 2,000 are also on standby to be deployed regionally and nationally.
Met Police have sent hundreds officers to GM Police. Meanwhile, South East forces have been sent to the North East and North West as well.
A police source said: “Today is probably going to be the busiest day of the week, into the evening.
“Tonight, we think it’s looking like a credible picture. We are preparing for activity across 41 forces.”

Twitter users gave their reaction as Sheffield United issue a statement amid the threat of potential riots with police on alert across towns and cities…
@MattB1889: Any ‘Blade’ smashing up any part of our own city wants identifying by others and banning from the club for life.
@bramallblade: If there are any Blades fans identified in these far right racist attacks, then I want to see a firm and clear message; expect a lifetime ban at @SheffieldUnited. You’re not welcome.
@SevenHillsBlade: If you’re a Blade and you’re involved, then you’re an utter buffoon. Hope the next ticket you pick up is your prison meal ticket.
@GillottMark1867: As a Wednesday fan I say that on this one in with you 100%. Both clubs are at the heart of our community. The whole of our community. Both clubs have had people represent us from every possible background
@andyofthings: More than a few Blades fans need to heed this sadly. I’ve seen supporters sharing misinformation (knowingly in one case), sowing division and making racist comments. Embarrassments to the club, the city and humanity frankly.
@Spindles72: Safety of your staff comes first. About time these idiots packed it in. Achieving nothing.
@Supermac1989: Blades against Racism, Fascism, xenophobia and all other forms of pointless hatred. We are the original united and united we must stand ⚔️
@Games_Recruitor: First ever tweet I’ve like from SUFC, but can’t agree more. #UnitedSheffieldAgainstRacism 💙🤍❤️
@CFCLukeyy: Very disappointing times in the UK, lets hope it improves
@AintBarrel: Appalling that this has to be said, but delighted the club has made the statement.
@GironaExpat: Hugely disappointing that the club has had to protect its staff because of an expected riot. The UK is in a pickle. In Spain we have received a travel warning about going to the UK. Those outside the country see us as an unsafe, lawless nation. They might be right 🤷♂️
