Macclesfield sign ex-Stockport, Buxton, Chester player Dan Cowan just one month after he was announcing he was retiring from football.
The newly promoted side are delighted to unveil the signing of defender Dan Cowan, who has agreed terms with the club ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, but coming as quite a surprise to fans.
In June, he wrote on retiring: “Hardest decision I’ve ever had to make, but one I feel is right for my progression. 2 promotions and many games under my belt.. cheers to that”

CLUB STATEMENT:
Macclesfield FC are delighted to unveil the signing of defender Dan Cowan, who has agreed terms with the Club ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
The 26-year-old began his career by representing Buxton and New Mills at junior levels, before progressing into the Centre of Excellence at Macclesfield Town.
Dan’s career took off at the Moss Rose, as he ascended through the ranks right the way up to First Team level.
Making his senior debut during a Cheshire Senior Cup tie at Stalybridge Celtic back in February 2013, Dan made sixty appearances for The Silkmen before signing for Stockport County in the summer of 2017.
The reliable defender would spend three years at Edgeley Park, before making the move to Nethermoor in order to join Guiseley.
Spells at Curzon Ashton and Chester followed, before Dan signed for Buxton last January.
Helping The Bucks become Northern Premier League champions, Dan then departed Silverlands earlier in the summer and we are delighted that he has chosen to sign for The Silkmen.

INTERVIEW WITH DAN
Dan: Yeha very pleased uh it all came out the blue so, I thought stepping away from football, go to a charity game, and all of a sudden I’m here so it’s you know it’s a nice surprise to be back where where I started here so yeah it’s nice
Interviewer: In terms of making you change your mind or pulling you out of every time and what do you think the main features which led you into that decision
Dan: I think the hold it has on me already so I think you know what the club means to me is a big thing I think the location’s great you know it’s on the doorstep as well and just where the club wants to be it’s nice to just jump on board where where we’re at now and hopefully bring them up to where they should be
Interviewer: The place has certainly changed a little bit since last time you’re here
Dan: I mean you look at the place now you’re the bars ridiculous standards you know the 3g pitch everything about it is a much better standard than it was and you know you’re in League Two before now now we’re starting from the bottom but you’ve got the you’ve got the settings in place to be you know much higher than that
Interviewer: I think you left the old Macclesfield Town in 2017, just gives a bit of a rundown of you know how careers develop since then
Dan: Yes I went from there to Stockport County I had a good couple of years there winning the league winning the National North and getting into the Conference doing well in that Covid would hit so that disrupted things a little bit so i was at clubs like Guiseley and Curzon Ashton just for a little bit and then I moved to Chester and then went to Buxton which was my home club so it’s nice to go from buxton to Macc so the last two clubs that I’ve been at have been close to my heart and then yeah found my way back here and obviously winning or helping to win the northern premier league last season with buxton that must have been a great achievement yeah it’s really good especially reaching the heights that they’ve never done before so it was always something that they’ve always wanted so to be a part of that as a local boy was was really good would you like to achieve here and macclesfield it’ll be a title isn’t it it’ll be number three for me hasn’t it so in terms of a collective
Interviewer: How likely you think we’ll achieve that
Dan: I mean i’ve played half the game with I can see how professional they all are how the standard is you know a very good one especially for the level i mean you go toe to toe with the likes of west brom you beat teams like buxton easily so to go into this league season with the confidence of beating these sort of teams you know we should be really pushing forward and not looking back
Interviewer: I mentioned obviously the West Brom game you’re opening you’re a goal scoring account with us even though i think we named you as a trial estate or whatever that day, you’d be wanting to make mark at both ends of the field
Dan: yeah definitely i feel like that came a little bit later on in my career, well i should say that you know it sounds like i had a long career, but yeah it’s something that i didn’t manage to do at macc you know i had nearly 50 appearances with no goals so it was something that came a little bit later on down the line so i would say yeah goals and goals going forward is something that i can i can do and hopefully i can show you
Interviewer: And just finally and you’ll know how passionate the Silkmen fans are and obviously the numbers have almost gone through the roof over the last year how important will they be
Dan: Oh i think it’s gonna be massive you know to play in front of three four five thousand people every week is is gonna be a real push for for anyone uh no matter whether it’s at this level or two three four leagues above so to have that behind you and also the away games is gonna be great support there it’s gonna really push us to it’s going to be succeed good support from every angle

@Joshbgafc: Retired from football for 4 weeks
@xclaireninax: Welcome Dan 💙. Ok my opinion. If his intentions were to retire, then benefit of the doubt people can change their mind. If that’s not the case, fans do deserve honesty and not flannel. Hope it’s not the latter. Anyway enough of me putting the world to right, welcome again
@The_OgFayee: Disappointed Daniel… Disappointed 😞
