Luton fans amuse with cheeky chant while earning praise for still singing after losing at Chelsea

Luton Town fans amuse with a cheeky chant while also earning praise for still singing after losing 3-0 at Chelsea on Friday night.

Raheem Sterling netted twice and provided an assist for Nicolas Jackson to open his account as a Chelsea player during a comfortable victory over the Hatters.

But despite the result, Luton fans in the away end kept singing at the top of their lungs, with their support not going unnoticed.

In the early stages of the Premier League game, Luton supporters also could be heard with the “Conference Champions, you’ll never sing that” chant.

Luton boss Rob Edwards:

“I don’t like losing, none of us do. But there are ways to lose. When our fans reacted like that, applauding us off, we know we’ve done something right.

“We were up against it, against a really good team today. I thought we were really brave, I am proud of the players.

“I’ve seen improvement from the game against Brighton. We were aggressive when we could be and tried to go for them. In the end both ends of the pitch let us down slightly. They were ruthless in the key moments and we weren’t. There are areas to work on.

“Second half I thought we started as the better team. We had to make something happen but we weren’t able to. It was going to go one way or another, we needed to score but they did.

“The players have worked so hard, I’m not going to blame anyone. We have to make sure we can do the basics for 100 minutes. Football is difficult, especially at this level.”

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the 3-0 win over Luton: “Really pleased. All credit to the players. I’m so happy because it is important to have that winning feeling again. Happy with the three points, a fully deserved, solid performance.

“The important thing is that we were very solid, we had good discipline and without the ball we defended really well. Then of course we created chances and very much deserved the victory.”

On Raheem Sterling: “He is very, very important for us. He has the experience and quality and brings goals and assists to help the team to win games. The connection with [Nicolas] Jackson was good tonight, and the assist for the goal was very good. It is always good when the offensive players are involved in the goals.”

On Nicolas Jackson: “We knew his quality when we signed him, we saw that before. It is not that we ask him to run and press the ball, he is quality in the way he recovers the ball, but he also can finish. It is only a matter of time, once he settles into the Premier League, he will show it more. He has top quality

“I have no doubt that he can become one of the greatest strikers in the world – the quality is amazing and it is there.”

Social media users reacted as Luton fans amuse with a cheeky chant while earning praise for still singing after losing at Chelsea…

@daggersfam: We’re Premier League team by merit. Proud of my club and our achievements. The salty comments from other fans does make me laugh, jealous of our success because we’ve done it and done it the right way where others have failed. COYH 🟠🎩

@AlanJKeers: Still learning, bringing new players together, doesn’t happen overnight. 60 mins in it looked like the it was starting to come together. It will come good, the fans at the ground saw that.

@jamesltfc02: If 3-0 against our back line is what a billion pounds gets you ill take the loss 🤣🤣

@PureLuton: one of the loudest away ends i’ve ever been in, stamford bridge is a soulless library though lol

@jamesltfc02: For all the prem fans mocking us: we’re going to be alright, maybe not stay up but be okay. This zero points and pumped every week is gash. Its been Brighton and Chelsea ffs🤣🤣. Proud of Luton Town regardless

@dave_trill82: Putting it into perspective losing in the EPL isn’t even close to being deducted 30 points & getting relegated from the EFL before the season started.
