West Ham assistant Kevin Nolan gets held back in his half time row with Neal Maupay; while Brentford fans walk out on the 69th minute.
Nolan was seen engaging in a heated confrontation with Brentford’s Neal Maupay at half time at the London Stadium with Maupay approached by Nolan as both teams were preparing to start the second half of Monday night’s Premier League clash.
West Ham were 2-1 up at the time with Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville saying that Maupay had allegedly been waiting outside referee Simon Hooper’s room during the break.
The incident seemed to have angered Nolan, as the disagreement between the two continued down the tunnel.
‘There was quite a bit going on at half time as the players came back out from the tunnel,’ Gary Neville said.
‘The Brentford striker Neal Maupay we believe was outside the referee’s room and Kevin Nolan [West Ham first team coach] has taken offence to it.
‘It doesn’t look like he’s calmed down either.’

Brentford became more frustrated as their penalty appeals were dismissed by Hooper during the first half.
The Bees arguing that Sergio Reguilon had been fouled by Mohammed Kudus in the penalty area, only to see their protests ignored.
West Ham quickly took a 2-0 lead within the first 10 minutes against Brentford, Bowen opening the scoring in the fifth minute with a shot that struck the post before finding the back of the net.
He then added another goal just two minutes later by converting Coufal’s pass.
Despite Maupay pulling one back for Brentford, West Ham extended their lead when Bowen completed his hat-trick in the second half.
Emerson sealed the win with a stunning long-range strike in the 69th minute, which is when Brentford fans started heading for the exits, missing Yoane Wissa getting his side’s second of the game.

Brentford boss Thomas Frank to BBC Sport: “We know we always have a chance to come back and we came back. We knew there was a way back into the game.
“Unfortunately we gave the third one away and that killed the game a bit. We played a West Ham team who were better than us today and we didn’t perform to our highest level.
“The frustration is we performed badly over all. It seems after a very good performance against Manchester City, it’s two steps back again. It’s an inconsistent season so far.
“These players have a fantastic mentality and work ethic but we didn’t have a high enough performance today.
“We lost 4-1 so that [penalty appeal] didn’t decide it. The penalty shout at 2-1 was a clear penalty on Reguilon.
“I’m irritated by the inconsistency of performances. I know it’s there. I’m convinced we’ll find it quick again.”
On Everton having four points reinstated: “I’m unbelievably irritated with our performance today so that’s my only focus.”
West Ham goalscorer Jarrod Bowen, speaking to Sky Sports: “I’ve had a couple of times where I’ve had two goals and never got the hat-trick. It was on my mind. I don’t score many headers but they all count. It’s a really proud moment for me. You’re always waiting for that third one and it never comes. I got the little glance on the header and it went in. I was so buzzing to get it.
“I’m always wanting to shoot so I set the touch up for it. I didn’t catch it too clean and it went in. With my left foot, I’m always looking for the cut back. I was lingering in the box and trying not to be marked from the defender. I saw that it was two goals in seven minutes and I don’t think I’ve scored that quick before. Kudus put a great ball and I thought I was in. I just tried to get in the right areas in the box and trust that the right ball would come in.”
On celebration: “I’ve been watching a bit of people MCing so my mates told me to do the Spider-Man celebration. I promised my mate I’d do it so I had to do it for him.”
On new position: “There’s been games where I’ve struggled and not really been in them. I’m always learning. With my energy, I’m always trying to press. It’s difficult. I’m five foot nine and up against big centre halves. I’ve got to know what I’m good at and not what I’m good at. I’m trying to learn a new position in one of the best leagues.”
On West Ham results: “Since the start of the year, we haven’t been at a level that we’d want to be at. Tonight we made a good step but there’s a lot of work to be done. We have some big games coming up and we’re back in Europe.”
Bowen to BBC Sport: “There’s been a lot of games, at Hull City too, where I scored two but couldn’t get the third one.
“Tonight [after scoring two early I was] thinking a lot of the game left here. The ball comes in and I managed to put it away. My first thought was please don’t be offside.
“Inside I was really happy for myself to get that first hat-trick I’ve been waiting for for many years.
“[I thought] don’t miss. I’m not really known for my heading. I had to score.
“We knew tonight we could create a home atmosphere with the fans and if we started well they’d respond to it.
“The players were running out of energy a bit. There’s times you have to sit in and we did that.
“We needed a reaction. It was one game which could change our season. We’re back in Europe. A lot of games to look forward to.”
On England: “That all takes care of itself. I was disappointed not to score since the Manchester United game.”
West Ham boss David Moyes, speaking to Sky Sports: “We needed to get three points. We played in a much more aggressive fashion tonight. Played well in the first half, not so well in the second half but we got the goals we needed.
“The difference Paqueta makes and Kudus played well too. Bowen was back to his best tonight. That front three is huge for us when you see what they can do.”
On Paqueta risk: “It paid off greatly because we were really nervous about bringing him back in the week. We didn’t want to reinjure him. We got him off after 70 minutes and hopefully he’ll be ready for the next game as well.”
On building momentum: “We have to win more games but we’ve been in a good position must of the season. Being in the top half of the league for West Ham is good. Our European success has been good, we’ve got more to come for tat. Some more reality has to come into too. We’ve had a bad month.”
On Bowen: “If we can get Lucas [Paqueta] playing well and Jarrod [Bowen] playing as well as we can then they can make a difference. Jarrod started the season really well and he got injured with England. If he keeps scoring the goals then he’ll be in that England squad to go to the Euros.”
On contract: “Me and the chairman have a great relationship. We’ve been pushed by the media more. We were happy to wait until the end of the season. The big thing for me is to see what happens until the end of the season. I’ve enjoyed it here, the club have been good to me. We were a relegation team before but now we’re around Europe.”
Moyes to BBC Sport: “I’d hoped it was coming. It was needed. Our form in six weeks has been poor. It’s good to score four goals and get a win at home.
“Lucas [Paqueta] made a huge difference to us. He was running out of steam after 60 mintues. He’s a huge influence on the team. He’s an excellent player.”
On Jarrod Bowen’s first hat-trick: “I thought maybe he might have got one at Hull. It gets him back in the goals. I’m sure if he scores like that he’ll keep in Gareth [Southgate]’s mind.
“Jarrod Bowen at times has looked that way but hasn’t quite got the goals. Some of his performances recently have gone unnoticed because we haven’t won.
“He was Johnny On the Spot and got the goals. He was a threat in other ways too.”
On sitting eighth: “Not bad at this time of the season. We’re always getting a level of criticism but we’re up there challenging. There’s a lot of teams with a lot of money and experience. It was only three years ago we were battling to avoid relegation most seasons.”
On his contract situation: “I want to get more performances and wins and challenge the best we can. When you get to my age you can sign contracts whenver you feel ready to do so. It’s probably getting pushed more by the media than anyone else. We’re all happy to wait until closer to the end of the season.”
Brentford boss Thomas Frank, speaking to Sky Sports: “People have different strategies when they speak about the games and the referees. We didn’t get to our level today. We played against a West Ham team that played well. There were crucial moments in the game that didn’t go our way. I think the push on Reguilon was a penalty. To me, it was a push in the back but that’s it.
“We work very hard to find consistency in the season. We did very well at the Etihad against the best team in the world but we scored two here very quickly.”
Twitter users reacted after Kevin Nolan gets held back in row with Neal Maupay and Brentford fans walk out on the 69th minute…
ON NOLAN/MAUPAY:
@TalkingTHFC: Maupay being a plank. Water is wet.
@AlexanderToon94: Is it possible to find anyone who doesnt support Brentford or one of his past clubs, that doesnt think Maupay is just a proper bell
@TweetChelseaUK: Swear Maupay has beef with everyone
@Luke_Meaton: Least liked man in the entire league.
@NathanShapland_: Maupay squares up to himself in the mirror
@SDM2499: Kevin Nolan bleeds claret and blue
@paulwildey999: Maupay could cause a row in an empty room 😂
@joedeano_: How does Maupay have the front to whinge about abuse he’s just a complete knob
@Hairymonkeyboy: I’d back Kevin Nolan to batter pretty much any current Premier League footballer tbh.
@Emma77756624: Have him big Kev ⚒️⚒️⚒️
@JamiegCPFC: Maturing is realising this guy ain’t a shit house, he’s just a bellend
@Perkinz9: Maupay got turned by Kudus and fell on his arse, started on Nolan and then got bodied by Mavro in the second half – had a mare, he has! He’s an unbearable prick, but if he was at our club we’d love the shithousery 😂
@Beniesta_: I swear this guy has a 0% win record when he pipes up 😭😭😭
@DagAVFC333: If he put as much effort in on the pitch as he does to winding people up he might be a bit less bang average.
@mattbry78377883: Maupay thinks hes a bit of a lad, what he didn’t realise is nolan wont tolerate that nonsense get back in ya box maupay hes had beef with a few people lately needs to be punished for his aggressive nature he will be lights out one of these days 💯⚒️
@jodgeysimmo07: Nolan would beat him
ON BRENTFORD:
@benkemp_uk: Clear out needed in the summer. Desperate for 3 new centre halves, 3 midfielders, a full back, winger and two strikers.
@Robthomurbanist: That was weird. Where was the attitude and energy? 10 minutes to go and just calmly passing it around. Felt like a training game. Yes, should have had 1, maybe 2 penalties, but poor passing, underhit/miscued passes, giving the ball away… Worrying how disinterested it all felt.
@phathowe: Really poor from the team selection, through lack of changes to overall performance. We’re right in the shit make no mistake. Hopefully a bit of an eye opener for all concerned…
@G_Vincey: Showed no desire and minimal effort… Was actually pathetic to be honest… Sort it out!
@Nige150: Embarrassing. Defence is shambolic. We’re static, have no speed, our attack was slow and laborious. Padding was dreadful at times. Last ten mins better with Mads/Wissa/Damsgaard
@Nige150: Ivan looked totally disinterested and was poor until the final 10. Ajer and Collins are often a liability. We have no physical y to puniness or speed. And had nothing up front. Our crossing was rubbish. Championship performance at at best
@TommyLYeah: Ok, isn’t it about time we stop dicking about, giving teams goals, and change up this godawful system that doesn’t work?
