Jamie Vardy rattles Hull fans after scoring his penalty before scoring again to snatch draw

Jamie Vardy rattles Hull fans after scoring his penalty before scoring again to snatch a draw for the Championship league leaders.

The 37 year old’s 14th and 15th goals of the season helped the Foxes maintain their three-point advantage over 2nd place Leeds.

It was a closely contested match in the football today, Hull’s Fabio Carvalho missed an early penalty, but later capitalised on Leicester’s mistakes to give his team the lead.

Vardy then equalised from the penalty spot after a foul on Abdul Fatawu and immediately stood in front of the home fans, riling them up even more.

Despite Anass Zaroury put Hull ahead again in the second half, Vardy though quickly responded with a goal to secure a valuable point for Leicester.

Hull boss Liam Rosenior said to Hull Live: “That was us. That’s going to stand us in good stead. I slept well last night because I know what this team are about. They’re an outstanding group of people first and foremost.

“What pleased me the most today was we did it in our way. The bravery to play out against an outstanding team, one of the best teams that have ever played at this level, and to dominate the game in many aspects in our way, we dominate possession, more shots on target, and a lot of really pleasing aspects.

“We let ourselves down with moments and lapses of concentration, but honestly, the only way I can get the players to learn on the job in the way that I’m asking us to play is to learn on the job because they’re young, they’re young and inexperienced players.

“They have (Jannik) Vestergaard and (Wout) Faes. We’ve got Alfie Jones and Greavesy still learning their trade as centre-halfs, Gilo (Ryan Giles is what, 23 years old. We can go through the team other than Mika (Jean Michael Seri) and we’re a young group that makes naive decisions at times, and the second goal for Leicester, I think, sums that up.

“In our naivety, there’s a fearlessness in the bravery in the way that we play, so it counterbalances, but now what I’ve said to the players is we need to peak now. This is when we need to peak. So in terms of learning lessons from Tuesday (against Birmingham) I felt we had more cutting edge, more threat, we try to score earlier in our possessions and our build. We played with more speed and tempo, so the players are showing me in every step that they’re learning and improving and if we keep doing that on this journey, I feel like we can get to where we want to be.”

Leicester’s Enzo Maresca said: “It was a very tough game, as we expected. We said yesterday that they are a fantastic team. They are in a good moment. They’ve won many games and have beaten Southampton away so they are a very good team, quick and technical.

“We came here and tried to win the game. It was a mix but the performance was there; the effort from the players was unbelievable. Probably the pitch was not perfect for us but, overall, they gave everything.”

Speaking about the response to going a goal down, he commented: “The action was very good and the reaction after the goal we conceded was very good too. That shows the players are there and ready to start again.

“It showed the desire from the players to win the game. But sometimes when you cannot win, you have to take the draw, so today we took the point. That in this moment is important.

“Not only today, but all the season, I’m very proud of all of them because every game we have given everything and today once again the effort was very good.

“Now they have two days off which they deserve completely,” the Italian added. “Then we have the FA Cup next weekend, we’re going to enjoy that there. And then finally, the international break, we can recover players and recover energy to go again.”
