Incredibly, news has come out over the weekend that journeyman Jamie Cureton signs for yet another new non league club, aged 44.
The former Premier League and English Football League footballer, who has made over 1,000 appearances during his 27 year playing career, has signed for his 21st team.
Cureton has signed for Essex Senior League side Enfield, who groundshare at Bishop’s Stortford, after departing Isthmian League outfit Hornchurch, who he had joined in February 2020.
He tweeted following the announcement on Twitter and said: “Delighted to sort out my future for the season ahead. Joining a club on the up, so impressed with the plans on and off the field. Cannot wait to get going. Hoping to add value playing and coaching.”

Fans were left shocked in February after finding out that the 44 year old player/manager said he was told he had “no future next season as player or manager” at Isthmian League Premier Division side Bishop’s Stortford.
Jamie Cureton is the only player to have scored in all England’s top 9 leagues and has incredibly played over 1000 senior games and scored over 370 goals.
At the end of 2019 Jamie had made 86 appearances and scored 46 goals for Stortford. He was on a dual registration with Enfield, and has made a couple of appearances and scored this season for the Essex Senior Leaguers.

Speaking about his long career, he said to Bristol Live: “I don’t think I’ve changed too much. I’ve always tried to stay very grounded and really want to enjoy football, no matter where I was playing or who I was playing for. That’s what’s helped me keep going, I’ve never thought I’m too big or too good, I’ve just embraced it.
“I just play to enjoy football, I’m not playing for any other reason anymore. It doesn’t matter who I’m playing for or whatever level, it’s just a pure enjoyment.
“I imagine there are a few people who would find it strange that I’m still doing it but it’s the one thing that I’ve loved all my life and if I can still play, I’ll keep on doing it. Even now, I still get the same buzz from running around and scoring goals.
“People keep saying I’ll be playing at 50 but I’m not sure. I’m at an age now I go year by year and see how I’m feeling. I don’t have any plans to quit.”

A quite staggering career , the stats are mind boggling ! A 1/3 goals to games ratio across over 900 senior matches is phenomenal. Fair play to you, your career and your love of the game . An inspiration to aspiring footballers and strikers in particular. ???⚽️
