Igor Tudor says a new coach won’t change Tottenham’s problems as club seek replacements

Igor Tudor says a new coach won’t change Tottenham’s problems as the club seek replacements, according to reports.

The Athletic state that Spurs are actively working on options, if they decide another change is needed in the dugout, with Tudor losing all four of his games since taking charge.

They sit 16th in the Premier League, one point above the relegation zone, and next face Liverpool, then host Atletico Madrid in the second leg of their last-16 tie in the Champions League after that horror 5-2 defeat in midweek, before facing Nottingham Forest.

“People think a new coach will come in and things will change and the problems will resolve,” Tudor told Sky Sports.

“It makes me laugh.

“When people want a new coach, it’s a new hope. People always want new hope that things will change but the reality is totally diffierent. The reality is not that.

“In this world where everyone has an opinion, you can never win. But as coaches we have to focus on what we can change. We need to stay calm and believe in ourselves.

“I don’t feel good because we don’t have results. The problems are bigger than I was thinking.

“There are a mix of emotions. I still have a will and a confidence to try and change things, but the problems are always coming back from nowhere like a red card or what happened in the last game [against Atletico Madrid]. Everything you work on and prepare is gone, and it is nothing about you as a coach, which gives you a bit of frustration.

“In other ways, I see the guys and they want to change things. It’s not easy for them, they are young guys who recognise the difficult moment.

“I need to find a strength in what I am doing and my job is to help the players.”

Questioned if he’s been unlucky with the problems at Spurs since arriving, he said: “I don’t believe in that stuff.

“But there’s too much. Every game, two or three players are out.

“Sometimes it is not easy to understand the reasons. Sometimes you understand the problems and I recognise them, but it’s been difficult.

“It is what it is and we need to accept that. We need to see it as a challenge and not cry.

“When you have 10 players every game, 12 maximum or maybe even 13 and you don’t have a central defender every game and Archie [Gray] is playing in four different positions. When you don’t have full-backs or four defenders, tell me, how can you manage this situation?

“Every time you have to invent and also, what is more interesting is in two training sessions you have to teach them positions that they have never played before.

“You need to be very, very good to teach all these things in one or two training sessions.”

On claims of a rift between Tudor and his players, who have allegedly lost trust in him: “When you are in this moment it is not easy to change things,” Tudor said.

“It is even difficult to try and explain this situation in words because it is very rare and unusual.

“We need to be on board because it is always about being all together,” he added on the reports his players have lost trust with him.

“They are [on board]. They work and they try to do what I say. They believe.”

On if he still feels 100 per cent confident in his ability to turn things around, he said: “Would you expect me to sit here and say no?”

“Not an easy situation, not an easy moment. [It’s a] big challenge to change things,” Tudor told the media on Friday.

“Like everything in life, you can choose how to see the situation. You can cry or you can fight. You can be the victim or you can change something. This is the message I communicated to the players.

“The bottle is either half empty or half full. Here there is nothing full, there are a lot of empty things.

“But difficult moments don’t last forever. It will pass. I believe the players who take this as an opportunity, who stand up with the courage to change these things, will become better people and players afterwards.”

“It is about all of us,” Tudor continued.

“In the last period, a lot of things were said about what is [wrong with] the club, the problems, [that] no one can do [anything] like we were victims.

“I said this morning to the players totally opposite things. We are the team and we are the staff. It’s all about us.”

On if Kinsky will appear for Spurs again this season, Tudor said: “He will play for sure. He came back the day after and was very good and positive in training. Nothing else. This is probably the first and last time that this happened in my life, and the life of a lot of people.

“It is the same message that I had before. You can go out and be the victim. Everyone was sending messages of help and ‘I am with you’ and this is nice also.

“He will for sure in his career make other mistakes, but I think he has the strength and quality in front of him to have a very good career.”

13 first-team players are currently unavailable for this weekend’s game: “We have a lot of problems to make the first 11. This is how it is at this club. It happens all the time. We start to build something and then something happens like a red card in the last game or three or four injuries.

“It is very rare, I have never had this situation in my career. It is very unusual but you have to accept this and try and change the things we can change.”

This is the fan reaction as Igor Tudor says a new coach won’t change Tottenham’s problems while the club seek potential replacements…

@SebOnFootball: Not saying it’s the wrong thing to to but we are an absolute circus. Never seen the like

@SpursInsider183: More managers this year than league wins since October 🔥

@Jsize18: So he’s safe after this week then

@tapintobs: Should’ve sacked him after Atleti away!

@WestHam_Central: Hardly his fault is it, they’ve got like 3/4 of their squad injured 😂 but let them panic again and be more unsettled, it’s fine

@TomFoins: We’ve created a job that is impossible for anyone to want. We haven’t won in 3 months, we kept hold of the last 2 guys too long so you’ve got no time to stop the decline, you’re probably going to get relegated, and we want someone else in the summer.

@SonOfChelsea: Always think clubs should just sack a coach once they are actively looking at replacements if/when they lose next match. It’s already over, make change

@RushTHFC: The amount of money we spend on hiring and firing managers is insane 😭 imagine we put that money toward signing players we might not be in this gd mess
