Huddersfield new manager search ‘advanced’ as 6th permanent boss since 2022 departs

The search for new Huddersfield Town manager is said to be ‘advanced’ as the club their 6th permanent boss since 2022 departs.

Andre Breitenreiter has departed from his position by mutual agreement following the team’s relegation from the Championship.

He took charge in February after Darren Moore’s dismissal but managed to secure only two victories out of 13 matches.

The Terriers were relegated to League One on the final day of the regular season last Saturday.

Prior to their relegation, Breitenreiter criticised the pre-season under veteran manager Neil Warnock’s leadership last summer, highlighting a lack of unity within the team.

With his departure, the club is now in search of their sixth permanent manager since Carlos Corberan’s departure in July 2022.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Huddersfield Town and André Breitenreiter agree to part way by mutual consent

– André Breitenreiter departs Huddersfield Town
– Club and former Head Coach agree to part ways
– Comments from Chairman Kevin Nagle

We can confirm that Huddersfield Town and André Breitenreiter have today agreed to part ways by mutual consent.

Breitenreiter joined the Club in February 2024, with the German coach overseeing 13 fixtures in the Sky Bet Championship as Head Coach, winning twice.

Following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season and confirmation of our relegation to Sky Bet League One, positive discussions were held between the Club and André regarding the future. However, with time it became evident that it was in the best interest of both parties to amicably part ways.

Huddersfield Town Owner and Chairman Kevin Nagle commented:

“I have enjoyed the opportunity to work with André over the past three months and he departs with our best wishes, while contingencies in place have seen our recruitment process for a new Head Coach advance.

“Supporters should rest assured that all decisions made are with the best intentions of our Club in mind, and we look forward to moving on in a positive manner with a new Head Coach dedicated to our ideals and vision, with our plans for pre-season and ambitions for the year ahead unmoved.”

Matt Glennon former Huddersfield goalkeeper and Town summariser on BBC Radio Leeds: “I was hoping he’d go. I don’t think he was the man to take the club forward in League One.

“I knew it was coming from his body language and what he was saying. It’s not a massive surprise, it’s just taken longer than I had expected.

“The problem is they bring in such different coaches and managers. They need consistency in who they bring in.

“They’ve got to bring the right person in and if they could get someone like Liam Rosenior that would be unbelievable. He’s a character who could have a connection with the fans and players and have a clear plan of what he wants to do.”

Owner Kevin Nagle confirmed earlier this week that Andre Breitenreiter had remained the ‘number one person’ to lead the club next season – but they did have other candidates in mind if he chose to leave.

Speaking after the final game of the Championship season at Ipswich Town on Saturday, Breitenreiter said that he needed some ‘time to reflect’ before coming to a conclusion on a decision as to whether to stay at the club or not.

Nagle was hoping a positive outcome, but admitted that ‘time is of the essence’, and said in midweek he expected a decision ‘one way or the other’ by Thursday.

In a end-of-season video diary, Nagle said: “Andre is our number one guy, I want him.

“I think if you look around, by and large our supporter base wants him. We also know there are other opportunities out there as well.

“They exist, and we do have contingency plans, although Andre is our number one person.

“We’ve got things we have to do. I’d love for Andre to be part of the build of what I think would be something special, what we’re beginning, so time is of the essence.”

Twitter users reacted with the Huddersfield new manager search ‘advanced’ as the 6th permanent boss since 2022 departs…

@p_ross85: Sorry to see him go, really hope the next person in can be here for 2-3 years building a successful winning culture, ideally with some attack minded get at the opposition style football. Constant chop an change is not helping us build an identity #htafc #UTT

@PSwallow: What a waste of time he was, happy to sign a contract then walks away after he failed us.

@BenHtfc21: 3 year plan Kev said, @warnockofficial and Jeppo on an initial 1 year deal. Pretend they’re leaving at the end of the contract when we all know full well that they’ll be joining back for our promotion to the Premier League in 25/26, then call it a day with a PROPER send off 💙🤍

@HTFC_Declan: Ffs, if he didn’t want it then fair enough, but some of these players best not get away with their lack of caring for the club. Need a good manager in now, get rid of the deadwood and rebuild.

@ChasersWhisky: Facts are the guy took us down with only 2 wins.. both a bit fortunate. Poor tactics and player decisions. Weak management of players and tried to save a mediocre reputation. We move on… wonder what mark fotheringham is up to 😂

@SteveG01046959: We move on . His time with us was extremely questionable and personally I didn’t see him leading us to any success. Better times are ahead.

@rsole1212: Bye andre, thanks for nowt lad, Please let Mark cartwright choose the new coach, didn’t he pick moore? Why is cartwright still there?

@lukebingham22: Jog on mate

@Matthew_htafc: Thanks for nothing

@jamieaspinalll: brilliant cheers 👍🏼

@OvingtonIan: Thank god we can move on #htafc

@steclark86: Get Nigel Clough in!

@Haushinka19487: Rosenior for me

@LuckasKing1: took his time

@DavidLongden132: Phew! Lucky escape.

@ThomasLi4m: Get Rosenior in lads

@SazSupa: Hoped he’d stay but he’s clearly not the right man for the job so on to the next…getting beyond a joke this manager situation.

@gmstore1233750: Good stuff. Was never sure about him. Onto better things. UTT!

@T_Rev_stevenson: Gets us relegated.. blames everyone else under the sun.. then disappears because he’s too big time?… bit of a loser

@jmchtfc: German Darren Moore. Can’t say I’m bothered. Now get someone committed in

@theheadfather: I hope we’ve not paid him off

@mwwhtafc81: Fair enough, not let’s get a gaffer in and properly back him and storm league one

@Inmanry: If he’s not committed then see ya later 👍
