Leeds fans go viral with chants taunting West Ham being relegated to the Championship

Leeds fans go viral with a number of chants taunting West Ham being relegated from the Premier League to the Championship.

On the final day of the season, Tottenham avoided the drop after beating Everton 1-0, ending West Ham’s 14-year stay in the top flight, finishing the season on 39 points.

The Hammers fanbase protested, with some banners on display, venting at the board, others stood still staring into the distance. According to Leeds Live, hand gestures were aimed towards the director’s box, staff and invited guests clapped Wes Ham payers who made their way around the pitch.

Such chants heard were:

“We’re only here, to take that piss”

“Leeds are staying up, staying up, Leeds are staying up”

“Stand up if you’re staying up”

“Lincoln away olé olé olé”

“Bolton away olé olé olé”

“Millwall away olé olé olé”

“Blackburn away olé olé olé”

“Boro away olé olé olé”

Leeds fans then wound up Hammers fans with “you’re going down, you’re down” after finding out that Tottenham had scored, meaning West Ham’s chances of staying up were over unless Everton came back to win and West Ham beat Leeds

“2-0 and you’re going down”

“What the fucking hell is that?”

“You’re going down, you’re going, Wets Ham’s going down”

“Fuck off to the Championship”

West Ham released a statement following their relegation, it read:

“The confirmation of our relegation from the Premier League today marks a sad and painful moment for West Ham United.

“The club wishes to sincerely thank every single one of our supporters for the constant and loyal backing they have given, throughout what has been an extremely difficult and disappointing season.

“Ultimately, we have not repaid that support. The plain truth is that we have not been good enough. We must now face the consequences of that failure with honesty, transparency and a determination to repair, refocus and rebuild.

“West Ham United is a football club whose unique identity is defined not by success or failure on the pitch, but by the values and traditions of our roots in east London, and by the spirit of the people who have Claret and Blue in their hearts. The Club acknowledges how challenging this season has been for them and knows it must take steps to restore a sense of pride, faith and belief.

“As we have done before, we will fight with everything we have to return to the top division of English football at the first time of asking. The hard work to make that goal a reality begins immediately.”

25/26 Premier League final day confirms relegation and teams to have qualified for Europe

Nuno and his players react on West Ham relegated to Championship for first time since 2012

Nuno on his future at West Ham, as per Sky Sports: “For the respect we have for the supporters, it is not the moment to speak,” he said to Sky Sports.

“Out of respect for them, tomorrow will be a new one [day].”

He continued: “Tough day for us. We knew it would be difficult and we did our part but it did not happen.

“The moment is to just feel this sadness. We had a tough mission and the boys tried it. I wish things could be different for our future but at least we finish with dignity.

“It doesn’t take away the sadness. We did many good things but now it is tough to look back and analyse. I just spoke with the boys, we are all sad going through this period.”

Leeds boss Daniel Farke said, as per Sky Sports: “I have to say commiserations for West Ham. Sad day when a club goes down. It is fair to say that today was one game too many without too many key players.

“We should have gone into the lead and put the game to bed but we were sloppy in possession.

“We will travel back home and when the disappointment settles, we can look back on a fantastic season. I am very proud.

“They have played a fantastic season. We can go home and recharge, then have fresh energy to build on this again. We have a bright future because the foundations are there.

“We have started to speak about the future and of course this will continue in the upcoming weeks. It is important to take some time to recharge.

“Since arrival was confirmed, we have already started to work.”
