Incredible scenes as Bournemouth, Sunderland and Brighton react on qualifying for Europe

Tottenham’s Joao Palhinha speaking to Sky Sports, as per BBC Sport’s live blog: “It’s an amazing feeling after a really tough season.

“A lot of things happened this season but we showed today what we can do. After a bad season like this one we showed up as a collective and had amazing support from the fans.

“The club will grow up with this season and we know what we have to do in the future. It’s a big pleasure to play here with a top coach and top team-mates. We have to celebrate even if we didn’t finish the position we deserve as Tottenham.”

On his goal: “It was just a goal. I just tried to help the team. I had a lot of emotions and wanted to dedicate it to my two sons and my parents.”

Tottenham manager Roberto de Zerbi, speaking to BBC MOTD: “I’m very happy and elated for the performance of my players. They showed they are good people and top players. We played maybe the best game in my time here.

“We played against an Everton side who had a coach that maybe wanted to help keep West Ham up but I’m sorry he couldn’t do that.”

On Joao Palhinha’s goal: “Joao Palhinha is a great example. He’s on loan here but he’s one of the first players to start here and as we look to rebuild next season.

“It’s now around 7pm and around 8 or 9pm we will start working towards next season.”

On the fans: “Before the game the fans were outside the stadium and they were fantastic. We had to fight on the pitch to make them happy and proud of us. We need to show more of this spirit in the future.”

Nuno and his players react on West Ham relegated to Championship for first time since 2012

Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven, speaking to Sky Sports: “It was emotional when the final whistle went. It has been a tough season, we’ve suffered so much. It was so tough mentally and physically.

“We played really well in the first half and dominated without taking our chances. We had to defend in the second half.

On Joao Palhinha’s goal: “We knew a draw would make us safe but we wanted to win to avoid going to the 90th minute with uncertainty.”

On how he feels about next season: “I’m really confident. With the right people now here – the right manager – I’m confident. Finishing 17th two years in a row is unacceptable for us.”

On the fans: “The fans were unbelievable over the last few games to help us. When we arrived from the bus to the end of the game they were the 12th man.”
