‘He got booked for this?!’ – Eastleigh baffled by ‘power trip’ referee in FA Youth Cup tie

‘He got booked for this?!’ – Eastleigh have been baffled by a ‘power trip’ referee in the FA Youth Cup tie against Truro City.

The club posted footage which has since gone viral on TikTok, while a full 24 minute YouTube video was uploaded.

It shows an “Incredible insight with the club’s Second-Year Scholar Coach Jason Brookes mic’d up’.

@eastleighfcofficial That is ridiculous! 🤦‍♂️😂 #nonleague #referee ♬ original sound – Eastleigh FC

In the TikTok video, which at the time of writing has over 300,000 views, sees Jason Brookes say: “Come on. When it drops. Well done. Hey, ref, please don’t ruin it. Please. Come on. Two fouls. No, I mean…

The referee replies: “I’m just following the laws of the game mate. Set a good example for these young men. Apart from, he’s older than you. Be a bit calmer.

Brookes adds: “Sorry?! How much calmer can I be? What am I, irate?! Ref, how much calmer can I, you booked him after two…

“He keeps winning the ball and you keep booking him.

The referee responds: “He just fouled him! Don’t have a go at me mate.”

Brookes ended up being booked himself and adds that the ref is on a power trip.

The game itself saw the young Spitfires side come out victorious in a 11 goal thriller in Cornwall to earn a place in the first round proper of the FA Youth Cup.

After going into half time at 3-3, Eastleigh responded well scoring five in the second half, going on to win 8-3.

Brookes said in his post match interview: “Yeah absolutely delighted honestly this group has been superb this season I’m just buzzing that they get the opportunity to keep going in the competition it meant a lot to them when we just went in there so yeah from 3-3 at half time when again we should have been leading to go and finish second off half off the way that we did yeah buzzing with that

Interviewer: Eight goals that must be a massive positive to take going into the next round

Brookes: Yeah it really is I think all season been a threat going forward and goals not just coming from Joe playing up front a lot but from all areas across the pitch so yeah it’s really pleasing when we’re getting goals from different areas we we look like we can score when we go forward and second half I did say to the boys you need to go kick on now and play your way back into the game cus it really was a blow going in at half time so yeah I’m buzzing

Interviewer: Yeah you mentioned Joe Ryan um he got a hat trick today how good was he

Brookes: Yeah he was superb honestly he prefers playing out wide but um I like having him up top and he’s getting better at at holding the ball up and adding to his game so the fact that he got goals there a lot of time he does so much unselfish work that he brings other people into play so I was buzzing that he got three goals he he deserved all three took them all really well as well

Interviewer: Was it frustrating in the way that we’ve scored eight we’ve gone out in the second half not conceded and it was just it was unnecessarily tight going into half time

Brookes: Yeah spot on really I think at half time we were really frustrated going in there and I told the boys to be calm and I basically said like does it deserve to be 3-3, probably not you should be leading by at least a goal or two however the goals came long balls over the top a questionable penalty won’t talk about but at the end of the day like you just that we couldn’t affect it a 3-3 at half time it was done we just had to go and affect the second half and they did it brilliantly so I was really proud of him second half

Interviewer: How much confidence will a night like tonight give us going into the next round

Brookes: Hopefully a lot because theyve had two really good rounds now we’ve had one home tie where it was a bit hostile with the fans from down the road we’ve had a four and a bit hour journey down here tonight on on a pitch that doesn’t suit the way that we play so we had to dig deep and and play maybe adapt at times so yeah going forward we’ve had lots of different scenarios to deal with so hopefully it’s stand Us in good stead

Interviewer: Yeah you mentioned the away journey and and and the hostile atmosphere who are you hoping for in the next round is it just someone close and local

Brookes: No well I think now we’re happy we’ve experienced a lot so if we get it be nice to go to a nice big ground or a stadium and Football League clubs coming in so that’d be good for the boys experience is the main thing um we’re under no illusions we probably won’t win the FA Youth Cup so as far as we can go uh would be really good so we’ll keep we’ll keep going game by game so hopefully a good tie

Eastleigh ended up getting a home tie to Portsmouth, and the FA Youth Cup tie saw his side winning 2-1. You can read a report on that HERE. Second Round here the Spitfires come.

This is how fans reacted with Eastleigh baffled by a ‘power trip’ referee in their FA Youth Cup tie…

Paul Southam249: Refs in the right, 2 fouls, whys question, passive aggressive

Jack!: You wanna calm down won’t ya, nearly gave yourself a heart attack there!

Elliott: refs like this unbearable

mattwafc3: He’s said why he’s booked him and managers said he’s ruining the game. Deserved

Dan: saying to the ref “please don’t ruin it” when he’s made a completely correct decision is enough for a yellow

Ewan: Ref thinks he’s big time

Harvey: There’s absolutely no need to be that angry during a football game

Lucas: I’m confused how people are siding with the manager on this? referee has done a great job

David B: 100% pulling on the player then pushes the player, it’s a yellow move on gentlemen

Scott Metcalf481: Booking a player for that will ruin the game and make the refs job harder because every foul after that everyone will be shouting for a yellow

Mark Alexander Gourl: unfortunately I need to agree with the ref here correct decision foul all day long not sure I agree with the booking tho a warning at most

Corey Foster: You don’t answer back to refs that’s back chat and aggression like he said set an example to the players. Ask him questions but don’t take the kick

Reece: Bro whispered to the ref and he acting like he’s breaking the decibel record

ruben: 2 fouls and he gets a booking, don’t see what the ref has done wrong

David Hosford: Manager was given two explanations why it was a yellow, continued on being disrespectful to the ref. Correct decision.

jcarp19991: The ref was more aggressive than the manager here. “Don’t talk to me like that I’m the wrong man” in that tone would get a manager rightly sent off.

Cal: Swear so many refs just abuse their powers

Garth Boyles: Deffo yellow. manager has to stay out the refs ear, just like the players should. Pull back on the first guy and through the back of the second.

Jimmy Bangs: Refs done nothing wrong there

luke96: Booking the manager for questions. Bit over the top from the ref, the manager was calm and the ref deffo was power hungry. Deffo should appeal it.

xWurdy: clear foul and clear yellow. manager keeps banging on he’s going to get a yellow, not sure what the confusion is 🤣🤣

Will Jones: It’s a yellow card all day long for the player behave, if the manager doesn’t argue the decision he doesn’t get booked 🤷‍♂️

tp4: refs obviously w sad old man
