Scunthorpe fan buys 1,000 tickets for armed forces and emergency workers in bid to boost crowd

A Scunthorpe United fan buys 1,000 tickets for armed forces and emergency workers and also in a bid to help boost the crowd numbers.

The supporter Danny Stamp, who runs a food stall at Glanford Park, gave tickets to give away to people of blue lights and armed forces after having talks about ways to get people through the turnstiles.

Scunthorpe currently sit 2nd in the National League North, with 28 points from 25 games played and on average get just below 4,000 fans at home games.

Dan Stamp tweeted on the 30th of October, saying: ‘How can we get more people through the gate?’. I’ll start the ball rolling… I’ll be giving away 1000 tickets for our next home game so keep tabs on the goats socials on how to get hold of them. Blue light and armed forces only. And yes I’ve paid for them out my own pocket 👍🏻”

He said, as per the BBC, that he hoped it would give a boost to the financially troubled club, recently taken over by local business owner Michelle Harness, with the tickets to be used for the home game against Gloucester City on the 11th of November 2023.

He said: “What can we do to get new people through and get them to catch the Scunthorpe United bug?

“I’ll hopefully get my money back in food and drink and whatnot.

“Then on the other hand it gives the club a financial boost for an extra 1,000 tickets and then hopefully we can get a few more supporters consistently coming through the gates that way.”

Stamp adds the tickets had cost him a “considerable amount” to purchase.

He added that although the tickets were free, he hoped people would make a donation to help the club out.

“There are a lot of people who want the club to survive and we are just trying to make it as sustainable as possible at the minute,” he adds, with tickets ranging in price between £16 and £33.

“It’s massive for the community that we keep the club going.

“If you take away the steelworks and the football club from Scunthorpe you’ve not really got a lot left.”

@LeedsMatters: Fair play mate, top effort!

@smithosufc: This is awesome. Exactly what the club needs is people who are prepared to do things for the greater good. I’ll have a brainstorm on a few ideas

@Jordkirby13: I’m a football fan and a ground hopper, currently on 76/92 and I know scunny ain’t in the football league right now but I’ve been a fair few non league grounds too and wouldn’t mind adding scunny to that list if you wanna DM me mate

@ironawaydays: Wow, that is actually unbelievable. Great effort Dan! UTI 💜💙

@ELMothOfficial: Good friggin on you mate, clubs need more people like you. Hopefully gets a few more people through the turnstiles.

@RRopionion: Lower league clubs don’t do this enough, you’re never going to fill every seat so why not raffle off some because what money you don’t get for the ticket you will bring in with food drink and merchandise from the free tickets.

@mcd2602: Why not give a few to local schools both high and primary… makes future fans of the club and they may keep coming to game bringing thier family and friends, expend the support base
