Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink speaks on resigning from Burton Albion while fans say who they want as a new long term replacement.
The 50 year old Dutchman leaves just two weeks after saying he would quit if he saw himself as “the problem” at Burton, who currently sit bottom of the League One table.
The final game of Hasselbaink’s second spell in charge of the club was Saturday’s defeat by Oxford, which leaves them with just one point from their first seven games this season.

CLUB STATEMENT:
JIMMY FLOYD Hasselbaink has resigned as Burton Albion manager.
The former Netherlands international striker was in his second spell as manager at the Pirelli Stadium having returned in January 2021.
Hasselbaink on resigning from Burton Albion said: “I have taken the club as far as I can with the limited resources available and it is time for someone else to come in and inject some new energy. I would like to thank the fans, and everyone associated with the club, including the Chairman, and to wish them all the best in the future.”
Chairman Ben Robinson said: “I have enjoyed working with Jimmy who is an inspirational coach and I understand and respect his decision to move on.
“I want to thank him for the success he brought to the club both on and off the field and I wish him well with his future career.”
Assistant manager Dino Maamria will initially take charge of first team matters with support from the backroom staff.
HIS POST-MATCH REACTION
JIMMY Floyd Hasselbaink said his team needed to get a draw out of the game and he felt that the points were there to be won.
After an even first half Albion conceded twice in the second period but came back strongly after Victor Adeboyejo gave them a lifeline with his first league goal. Joe Powell then hit the bar with a free kick and Albion missed out on a much-needed point.
The Brewers manager said: “I fancied us today to score and I always knew that if we kept a clean sheet we would win.about:blank
“The first half was not an attractive game, but we can’t be in those kind of games at the moment. We have to keep it tight, gain confidence and see things through from there. “
But Albion started the second period less well, and Oxford grabbed two goals.
Hasselbaink said: “We can’t come out of the dressing room in the second half like we did. We need to get through the first 15 minutes, play behind them and defend well.
“He should not be allowed to score the first goal. It’s a shot, it’s deflected, it hits the bar, and they are first to react.
“The second goal we are playing with three central defenders and if the middle man has the ball the other two need to narrow it down. They know that but didn’t do it and he just walks-on through. It’s basic stuff and we are getting punished and that’s tough for me to take.”
After that the Brewers had their best spell of the game and were lifted by the goal.
Hasselbaink said: “I’m happy for Victor. Gassan has gone and Victor has to lead the line and he has done that really well.”
But he admits that Adeboyejo will need help up front.
The manager said: “The free agent market is very difficult. We were trying to get people in on transfer deadline day but didn’t manage to get who we wanted and now we have to find some extra help. The games are coming thick and fast.”

Twitter users reacted as Hasselbaink speaks on resigning from Burton…
Matthew Ellam: Neil Warnock. If you reading this please come out of retirement, come “home” and bring the glory days back!
Michael Vardy: Not McGrath, Penn etc who have been mentioned, too big a job for them. We need an old hand similar to Warnock who can bring us a boost. Ideally the man himself however unlikely that may be.
Michael Vardy: Dino must surely go, we need a clean sweep. Wouldn’t want him in charge.
@ben17074539: Thank god, although Dino should be out the door aswell
@Kbrewers96: Get dino out as well @Dino_Maamria
@AshbyKarl: Thanks for the good times Jimmy. It is the right decision to try and give the club a kickstart.
@Darrenmiller87: When you realise you can get more for punditry on Sky Sports for 5 hours work vs what you earn slogging your guts out at Burton all week!
@AJayS319: Limited resources maybe but look at the shite he’s bought in on those limited resources. Easy to point to something like that when your recruitment has been an utter shambles. Thanks for the good work post-buxton but it’s been dreadful since.
@jonnytravelodge: Always be grateful how he saved us a couple of seasons ago but now his time is up. Raised the profile of the club but should have gone at the end of last season and got a new management team in. COYB!!
@StvnJ14: Two weeks too late.
@ITFCReactions: Felt this was coming with him appearing as a pundit on Sky Sports the last two weeks. Not what you’d expect from a manager who was fighting for his team’s future, and his employers have probably raised that with him. #BAFC
@Bradley123452: Came in and did a god job to keep us up, however the writing was on the wall when performances + results were poor from February till now. Shame the way it’s ended but we move. Interested to see how Dino does in the near future, may turn out to be another Rowett situation. #bafc
@ianthomasdesign: Not just Jimmy… Dino is part of the problem too, he should be out the door as well. Put Chris Beardsley in temporary charge if need be
@SamGoldy1994: Thanks for the memories in both spells but it was time to go. #bafc
@marcwebber: Doesn’t help when you spend your Sunday analysing other clubs’ failings in a TV studio when you should really be spending the time on working out why the club you’re managing is bottom of your league.
@ytfcaj00: Cared more about being on Sky than Burton lmao
@AngusMcgibbon: YESSSSSSS, FUCK OFF OUT OUR CLUB 💛🖤
@MB18Brewer: Saved us when we needed him most, unfortunately hasn’t worked out since, and the right time to move on đź‘Ť
@DanielOrme90: We go again! 💪🏻 Everybody behind the team now and whoever is in charge, both short term and after that. Let’s start getting out of this mess! UP THE BREWERS! #BAFC 🟡⚫️
@Jamesr02_: Burton will definitely be better off without him, the man was more committed to sky than the club
Joshua Fairbrother: If we could afford him Graham Alexander, done a good job at Salford and at Motherwell last season
Bradley Parker: Graham Alexander
Martin Thomas: Neil Warnock
Andrew Batchelor: Alexander at this level đź‘Ť
Michael Arnold: Jody morris
Nicky Hughes: Neil warnock would be a good fit, currently unemployed would he consider a return from retirement 🤔
