Former Pompey, M’boro, Norwich, Bolton midfielder training with League One side

A former Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and Norwich City midfielder is reportedly training with League One side Milton Keynes Dons.

That man is Gary O’Neil who is 36 years old and is set to play in yesterday’s Central League game against Peterborough United which ended in a 4-0 loss.

Paul Tisdale said: “Gary has been training with us while he searches for a new club. He can help us out in terms of numbers for games like this.”

He was most recently at Bolton Wanderers and played over thirty games for Bolton in the 2018/19 season, scoring in the games against Rotherham United, Millwall and Wigan Athletic however couldn’t prevent the club from being relegated to League One.

However, his efforts were recognised by the clubs supporters as he won the Player of the Year award.

He recently tweeted his frustration at not being able to find a club after he left Bolton during their financial troubles.

Fans of his former clubs Portsmouth and Bolton urged him to come back to them.

He has also played for Walsall (loan), Cardiff (loan), Middlesbrough, West Ham, QPR, Norwich and Bristol City.

Across his playing career, he has played 472 matches and scored 34 times.

After finding out that Gary O’Neil is training with MK Dons and also seeing his posts about not being at a permanent club, fans took to give their reaction with some joking about what he should do next – see what they had to say on the next page.
