Forest Green’s Jamille Matt posts new hand picture after horrific dislocation

Forest Green’s Jamille Matt posts new hand picture after his horrific dislocation picked up minutes into the game against Bolton.

The player suffered a horrific hand injury and was stretchered off just six minutes to his side’s match.

Matt collided with Bolton midfielder MJ Williams in the opening minute of their League Two clash on Saturday afternoon.

The accidental collision left the Jamaican striker reeling away in agony before hitting the deck, looking at his hand in disbelief as can be seen in the picture below.

His fingers appeared to be completely bent and in a seriously bad way as the physio rushed onto the field of play.

Forest Green now confirm that Jamille Matt will miss the remainder of the 2020/21 season following surgery on a serious hand injury.

Matt underwent successful surgery at Southmead Hospital on Saturday evening and he is currently recovering from home after being discharged on Sunday.

A surgeon has many different techniques for surgical immobilization, ranging from pinning the fracture with small wires to procedures with plates and screws depending on how bad the finger breaks are.

The patient will most likely leave the hospital in some type of immobilizing splint or dressing. Keep the dressing clean, dry, and elevated. It is best not to use the involved hand until a hand specialist is consulted (about one week after the injury) for another X-ray to evaluate the position of the fracture fragments. If the finger is not aligned correctly, it may affect the healing of the finger and leave a permanent disability.

The club add: “We would like to pass on our thanks to the staff at Southmead and North Bristol NHS Trust for their care and treatment of Jamille this weekend.”

Forest Green’s Jamille Matt posts an injury update after that horrific hand dislocation.

He said: “Gutted about the injury yesterday and not being able to help the boys out on the pitchg….A massive thank you for all the messages also, it really means a lot.

Another post read: “Thanks again for the messages wishing me well 🙏🏾

“Even bigger thanks to @TomShaw04 & @Dsweeney_and the ambulance staff for looking after me yesterday and eternally grateful to the staff at Southmead hospital @NorthBristolNHS for the care you provided…real heroes 💚”

The 31 year old Jamaica forward had scored 16 goals in 38 games for his club this season, helping guide Rovers to fifth in the League Two table, one point off an automatic promotion spot.

Forest Green Rovers boss Mark Cooper has had his say on Matt’s hand injury and the loss to Bolton Wanderers.

He told the club Twitter feed before discovering how long he’d be out for: “He’s sustained a significant hand injury that’s going to require some work surgically, so let’s see how that goes first before we speculate on what’s going to happen.”

Cooper believe’s Matt’s injury opens the door for other players in the squad to step up.

“Maybe it’s time now for one or two others to step up that have not played as much as we’ll miss Jamille Matt now. I’m getting fed up of the same people missing the chances.”
