Fans walk out early, Tottenham booed off, 3-1 defeat to Palace increases relegation fears

Fans walk out early, with Tottenham booed off again, as a 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace increases relegation fears.

Crystal Palace fought back at the end of the first half after Dominic Solanke grabbed the opener for Spurs.

Micky van de Ven’s red card proved to be the turning point, with Ismaila Sarr’s double sealing the win, with Jorgen Strand Larsen also getting on the scoresheet.

There were loud boos at half time and full time, many home fans decided they had seen enough and never returned to the stands for the second half.

As per BBC Sport, Tottenham are the only Premier League side without a victory in 2026, the 11-match winless league run being the club’s longest since 1975, but faced worse back in 1935, when they set a club record of 16 games without winning.

Tudor, who has lost all three of his games since being appointed, claims the team are moving in the right direction and believes they will avoid relegation, yet. with nine matches remaining, they sit one point above the relegation zone.

Tottenham boss Igor Tudor, speaking to TNT Sports: “It was two games. After the red card, it was a second game. The second half we tried and I saw interesting things but I’m very disappointed like the fans.

“We need to work hard and believe. After this game, I believe more than I did before. I know that sounds strange but I saw something in the team. Even in the dressing room after the game. When we are complete, and choose the right guys, I believe it will be good.”

What signs have you seen? “I saw some good energy, some wish to do, some more passion. The fight was there but unfortunately the red card changed the game. There is nine games to play. [Cristian] Romero is coming back, [Kevin] Danso was good today, [Pedro] Porro is totally different, maybe others will come back. We will be good when we are complete.”

Did pressure on Van de Ven cause red card? “We need to stop talking about pressure. This is not a topic to speak about. I will not speak anymore about pressure.”

Tudor, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “We are disappointed we lose. The red card changed the game. Then we conceded two or three fast goals. In the second half we tried. We wanted some good energy, I saw something to make me believe we can do it and I am sure we will do.

“The game plan was to believe when we are attacking that we are going to score a goal otherwise you cannot stay defending with one player [less] and unfortunately it was not enough.

“After this game I believe more than before. I know it is not easy. It is a moment but it will pass. It will pass. The message I said to them [the players] is not [for the] public.”

On Micky van de Ven’s red card: “I haven’t seen it yet. The referee decided it was red.”

Tottenham forward Dominic Solanke, speaking to TNT Sports: “We’ve just had a big conversation. We know the position we are in is definitely not where we want to be so we need to figure out how we are going to get out of it as soon as possible.

“We know there’s been difficulties but we’re not in a position to make any excuses anymore. We need to do the job on the pitch. It is easy to say we want to be better but we want to be better on the pitch.

“We need to fight and realise the position we are in. We know the club is not used to being in this position so we need to understand it and understand it’s not going to be easy and we need to fight every single game, every single minute, to make sure we improve.”

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “It was a satisfying evening, especially with the result and the first half performance. I wasn’t very pleased with the second half, we didn’t control the game in the way we wanted with one extra player. We gave them too many set plays and dangerous opportunities around the box, but these things can happen.

“What I loved most is the reaction after we conceded the goal; it was great coming back scoring fantastic goals. But we also have to be critical that we could have done better in the second half. This is what we will work on now, consistency over the full game.”

Was the drop in the second half a mental thing? “It shouldn’t come into it. You can control the game in posession, but you need to be sharp out of posession and we are not sharp enough. We have to put more pressure on the ball and be more sharp on second balls. This is what we can improve.”

On the offside goal ruled out: “I have seen the line, I think it was the forehead or the nose. Of course you can score a goal with the nose. I have seen a few very tight decisions, but today it didn’t matter.”

On Adam Wharton: “We know that he has a great pass and has great orientation. For me, the best goal was the second; we lost the ball on the edge of the box but we were really sharp with our counterpressing. It is always a team effort.”

“Adam is coming closer and closer to his first Premier League goal, he had a big finish after 30 seconds, but his assists are nice.”

On Daniel Munoz: “It is a shoulder injury. Right now his arm is in a brace. Let’s hope it’s not too bad.”

Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, speaking to TNT Sports: “I thought it went a llittle bit far [his second assist], but it was good that [Ismaila] Sarr was on the end of it because he is very quick. Great to get it and three points is massive.

“We have been on a good run of scoring in consecutive games recently, the gaffer has been mentioning it. We had a sticky patch when goals weren’t coming and now they are starting to come. It’s great for the attackers, it gives them confidence.”

On the prospect of European qualification again: “The target is to aim as high as possible, the gaffer has been saying it. The league is crazy this year, if we take each game as it comes we have a good chance of climbing the table.

@ReeceDSport: Spurs just a culture of everyone not taking accountability. Levy thinking I was never the issue. Board will come out and say we couldn’t undo the damage Levy left. The managers will blame the club, the players, the board. The players are always blaming someone else. Dark

@WestHamPlace: The commentators saying that the “Spurs players need the fans right now” is such an insult. To be fair to Spurs fans, they turn up every single week and have to endure that complete and utter wank football. On a football level, I don’t care for Spurs but I know exactly how their fans feel – like so many other fans, they’ve been let down.

@Im_RobM: The TNT Sports cameraman spending 5 minutes at full time showing all the depressed Spurs fans left in the stadium as Harry Styles sings “you know it’s not the same as it was” over the sound system. Top tier content.

@Thfc_RR: Sacking Ange was a wrong move. Replacing Ange with Frank was a foolish move. Not sacking Frank earlier was a clown move.

@TalkingTHFC: We’re going down. Tudor hasn’t got it. The players are already planning their next moves. The leadership is rotten. I’ve never been so angry or upset with Spurs in my entire life. There’s nothing else to say.
