Fans react as Peterborough look for a new manager after sacking Luke Williams following a 2-0 defeat to Doncaster.

Alfie May put Doncaster ahead after 15 minutes, and then Isaac Hutchinson doubled their lead on the 88th minute to give his side their third league win in 7 games.

Donny are up to 21st in the League One table with 6 points, while the Posh, who are winless in their last five games, sit 23rd with 5 points.

Peterborough United Football Club has today parted company with First Team Manager Luke Williams.

On behalf of everyone at the Football Club, we would like to place on record our thanks to Luke for all his efforts during his time at the Weston Homes Stadium.

This is not a decision the club has taken lightly. However, the team’s form in League One has not matched the Board’s expectations, particularly given the significant investment made in the squad, and following today’s performance against Doncaster Rovers the Board felt it had no other choice but to make a change.

The club’s existing coaching staff will take charge of the first team squad while the Board considers its next steps.

Peterborough interim boss Ryan Harley said after defeat to Doncaster and Williams’ departure: “Very difficult coming into the game in terms of result and more importantly the gaffer.

“Never easy at any football club, especially when it’s a long lasting colleague for me and a friend.

“And there’s been a lot of noise going on recently around Luke, I don’t look at social media but I hear things.

“A lot of it’s not correct, he works incredibly hard with the players, he gives them every ounce and he’s not quite worked recently.

“Very small margins but it’s difficult, a lot of the players are upset because he had a good relationship with them, all the stuff. Very difficult.”

Interviewer: “Obviously the situation is that you’ve been asked to carry on in injury and charge with the game on Tuesday and the players will be back in tomorrow and you’ll continue to work.”

Ryan: “Yes, yes, so the players have been tomorrow. They’ll do most of the light session. Some will train because we’ve got a big game Tuesday.

“Obviously we know what the tournament is to the club. They won it three times. So we have to get prepared for that.

“So, yeah, we’ll have some form of session tomorrow, talk to the players and make sure we’re organised for Tuesday.”

Interviewer: “And I guess that’s the thing, because the game comes so quickly that the only focus can be that game, right?”

Ryan: “Absolutely. As tough as it is, there’ll be a very funny feeling tomorrow because I’ve been at football clubs when this happened.

“It’s going to be very strange atmosphere but we’ll have to make it as good as we can in the circumstances.

“Make sure the guys get what they tomorrow in terms of recovery and training and then look at Tuesday, look at Colchester which will be a tough game.”

Interviewer: “Did the game itself go in a way that some of the games recently have gone in terms of you had spells in the game to obviously take advantage…”

Ryan: “Yeah, I think the first 15 minutes of the first half we had the game and we didn’t put our foot on the front and take enough chances. We didn’t create quite enough, we’re not smashing the door down. But we had moments.

“Second half we had all the flow of the game for 20 minutes and then we get a bit emotional and lose a foot. We still have the ball but we’re not doing maybe quite enough with it for loads of different reasons.

“So we’ll have to look at that for Tuesday and make sure we create that a little bit more, which is difficult. It’s not easy.:

Interviewer: “And particularly when you go behind in games and obviously the first goal that they score just makes it more uneasy, doesn’t it?”

Ryan: “Yeah, adds to the emotion when the stadium feels that we’re not in a brilliant place, the players can feel it as well. And then when you go a goal down from they haven’t done too much, that can creep in.

“The emotion then drops and then the performance feels even worse than it maybe is. Of course you can all do that a little bit better.”

Interviewer: I guess for now it’s just making sure that you work with the players, isn’t it, in the morning and lift them and try and get them going.”

Ryan: “Yeah, as I it’s very tough day, we hope to the players, the staff, give them as much as we’ve got, So we’ll look at that tomorrow.”
