Nicky Hayen admits he could be sacked by Burnley after Derby snatch draw in 93rd minute

Nicky Hayen admits he could be sacked by Burnley after Derby snatch a draw in the 93rd minute to leave the Clarets winless.

Burnley had been in front since the 34th minute thanks to Zeki Amdouni’s goal, but just when Burnley thought they were about to pick up a huge much needed victory, Mohammed Fuseini denied them that with Derby’s equaliser in second half stoppage time.

The result leaves Burnley bottom of the Championship table with 4 points from 8 games played, while Derby are 22nd with 5 points.

Burnley’s Nicky Hayen said, as per Sky Sports:

On whether he is expected to be in charge following the three-week international break in October, Hayen said: “I don’t know.

“I really hope so because I really work really hard for this club and I want to give back to the fans for their patience. I really understand how disappointed they are and that they even blame me. I don’t have a problem with it.”

Hayen on describing the Derby game beforehand as “must-win”, he added: “I don’t know. You have to ask this question to other people, but I speak a lot with those people also.

“We always do like a recap of the game and have feedback and always have an honest conversation.

“So I don’t know what’s going to happen. I know the fans are disappointed. We have had a really bad start and this is also not what I expected.

“But I’m always resilient. I’m always a fighter. Tomorrow I come back with a new positive energy. That’s always how I’ve worked. And that’s the energy that I want to bring towards the players and towards this club.”

Derby’s John Eustace said:

“We defended properly for the majority of the game, apart from the goal, which is another soft goal on our part, and limited Burnley to no opportunities, really.

“David Ozoh switched off for their goal. Part of his development is learning. Games are won and lost on set pieces, which everyone knows. And if we’d have lost today from that, it would have been a real kick in the teeth.

“It was a great finish from Mo for the equaliser.

“I’d obviously seen in his highlights reel that he likes to do a cartwheel when he scores and I said… He won’t be doing it again. But when he scored, I asked him if he did his cartwheel, and he said yeah. So I hope there’ll be a few more cartwheels to come.”

Here’s the social media reaction as Nicky Hayen admits he could be sacked by Burnley after Derby snatch draw in 93rd minute…

@rhamilton1882: Not good enough, sack Hayen, it HAS to be curtains for him. Let the protests begin clarets

@LarryClaret1: Fucking shocking decision making by the Manager again. If @AlanPaceBFC doesn’t sack that dick head of a Manager that ground will be half full in no time.

@danwhalley29: It ends in a draw because we have a shite manager who is way out his depth and tactical inept and players who can’t complete a simple pass or keep the ball or create anything or even look like they give a shite.

@Bensonsleftfoot: Get to fuck with this manager the one time we have balance with CBs and full backs in the right position he goes and takes Pires off alters the balance again and they score from that side #HayenOut

@sedicibob: Utterly spineless performance. Hayen has to go.

@DanielClaret10: given it a good go now alan, either do something or sell up

@ClaretXtra: I quite like Hayen. I think he was probably sold a lie, and the remnants of last season’s mentality are there to see. He likes and respects us a club. That being said, he has produced nothing to get excited about. Zero from eight is criminal. Wish him the best. #TwitterClarets

@bigbri1978: @BurnleyOfficial who takes there left back off on 89 mins who has been tuned in all game, and lo and behold where does the goal come from put an additional defender on to see it out 🤦‍♂️😔

@dzakomino1882: We are in dire need of a ‘Manager’ at Burnley Football Club. Strip everyone out of the coaching staff, and get in an actual Manager to *manage* this situation. The rest of the season- and maybe beyond- counts on it. UTC #twitterclarets

@MilltownClarets:
He has to go its not entirely his fault it starts at the top as we all know.. but !!….
no win in 8
no style of play
players lack belief/energy/cohesion
cant keep a regular 11
daft subs
weak bunch of players that ain’t really playing for him disaster!

@rushy_sport: When ALK bought Burnley in December 2020 we were an established PL club and had been in Europe in 2018 and finished 10th the season before. Nearly 6 years on and we’re bottom of the Championship. However you reflect on it their ownership has been a total failure #twitterclarets
