Fans mock John Terry for how he celebrated Aston Villa’s goal against Chelsea

Fans took to mock John Terry on Sunday afternoon for how he celebrated Aston Villa’s goal against his former club Chelsea.

It was the least enthusiastic reaction ever as he could be seen without a smile on his face and just four claps before folding his arms again.

Meanwhile, Dean Smith punched the air in celebration, highlighting the importance the goal could have had in Villa’s survival bid had they picked up any sort of points from the fixture.

Terry spent 19 years of his playing career at Blues and captained them to five Premier League titles and a Champions League triumph.

The former England international is now assistant manager at the West Midlands outfit but he couldn’t hide his Chelsea allegiance when Kourtney Hause opened the scoring prior to half time.

A shock result was too good to be true for Villa as Chelsea came out a different side and completed a comeback with goals from Christian Pulisic and Olivier Giroud.

It boosts their side’s Champions League hopes as they remain 4th in the table and five points ahead of 5th place Man Utd.

The result meant Dean Smith’s side still linger in the Premier League bottom three, though are a point from safety as the relegation battle gets tense.

He said after the game: “We’re playing against a quality opposition who have been in the Champions League for the lat 15 years, let alone the Premier League.

“They’ve got a fantastic squad of players and we made them work extremely hard today for that victory. It was good we took the lead and I thought we protected our goal really well. I think we ended up with more shots on target than them, and considering they had 70-odd per-cent possession it shows how well-organised we were.

“The one thing we’ve worked on during the pause has been being tougher to beat, blocking passing lanes and being harder to play through and I think anyone who saw that will have seen how hard Chelsea had to work to break us down.”

Terry’s former teammate, Frank Lampard, said: “I’m really pleased with the performance, when Aston Villa had the opportunity to do this once before and it was new for us.

“We moved the ball well for most of the game. We dominated, but it’s the story of some of our games, we need to be more clinical. But I can give the players some leeway because they’ve had a lot of time off. We showed great character and quality in the second half to win the game.”

Chelsea now host Manchester City on Thursday at 8.15pm, while Aston Villa travel to Newcastle on Wednesday at 6pm.
