Fans and pundits were left in disbelief as Patrick Bamford somehow misses a sitter late on after Jamie Vardy snatches a point for Leicester.
Substitute Jamie Vardy made it 1-1 on 80 minutes to salvage a point for the Foxes, keeping both sides firmly in trouble.
Vardy comfortably netted with a cool finish from James Maddison’s pass and then thought he had won it when converting from close range, only for it was ruled out for offside.
Colombian winger Luis Sinisterra broke the deadlock in the first half with a header at the back post after Jack Harrison’s pin-point cross, but the hosts couldn’t hold on.
Leicester also saw two other goals ruled out, one for Youri Tiedlmans early in the game and another for Vardy late on, ruled out due to offside.
Dean Smith’s side are now one point clear of the relegation zone with Leeds just a point behind.
Nottingham Forest could put the Foxes in the Premier League bottom three by beating Brighton on Wednesday.
Everton, meanwhile, can jump above both teams with a win over Newcastle on Thursday.

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy: “It could be massive. We have five cup finals left. We’ll enjoy the point tonight then get back in and recover.
“We were on top. Patson [Daka] came on as well so we had extra pace up there. We wanted to stretch them to get that space. We did it at the end. Luckily I was there to put it in.
“The gaffer has come in and every manager has their tactics but it comes down to defending one box and attacking the other. We have to keep working.
“I probably can’t say what I want to say on TV because I’ll get done but it’s been a weird season for me. Hopefully the goals keep coming.”
Leeds United winger Jack Harrison: “Playing at home, we’re playing for the win at this stage of the season. But we have to try and be positive. We need to stick together as a group.
“We try to put the past behind us, learn from our mistakes and continue on in a positive way. We’re looking for every point we can get in this moment in time. It’s not what we wanted but we will take it.
“Illan Meslier is a talented player. He’s young and he’s still learning. He’s a fantastic goalkeeper. We’re all behind him and backing him. If he gets caught up in what people are saying it’s not ideal but he has a strong mentality and we’re a close-nit group inside the club.”
Can they stay up? “100% belief in ourselves. We have belief we can do what needs to be done. We have to take it step by step. It’s five games and hopefully we can get the job done.”
On Patrick Bamford’s miss: “It happens in football. This is part of the game. There were others with chances and things we could have avoided. I know him as a person and he will look forward to redeeming himself. We’re all behind him.”
Leicester midfielder James Maddison on whether a draw was the right result: “Probably not. If you ask Leeds they will probably say the same. They scored when we were on top. Patrick Bamford should probably score but we dominated the second half. We created chances and probably could have won the game. It’s important you don’t lose though. We take the point away.”
On Dean Smith’s impact: “It gives you a new lift and hunger. You don’t lose that but it’s a new man to impress. New messages and a new voice can sometimes help. The players are fighting. There are positives.
“I’m a more experienced player than I was when I joined. It’s our responsibility to produce for our fans and our club.
“Jamie Vardy was born to score goals. When I saw it was him finishing it off I felt calm. We need to take the challenges and hopefully get the end goal.”
Leeds United manager Javi Gracia: “We had started leading then we conceded the goal near the end and had some chances. We worked for that. We are disappointed we missed some chances but we take one point and try to do it again in the next game.
“I’m happy because we followed the plan with a good attitude. They show high commitment to the club and the situation we are living. This way we are closer to the three points.
“We have different options to play up front. In this case we chose Rodrigo and Patrick Bamford, knowing we would need to play more direct in some parts of the game.
“The dressing room is really disappointed but we have a point and we have to play five games, being ready to be at our best.”
“We’ll take the point and try and get three in the next game”

Leicester manager Dean Smith to BBC MOTD: “Emotions were up and down during that game. A great start from ourselves. A great strike from Youri Tielemans. It gave them a lift then when the goal wasn’t given but our response was good. Then we gave a soft goal away.
“I’m a tad disappointed in general with the chances we created but we could have lost it at the end on that set-piece where our concentration has to be better.”
On Jamie Vardy: “He’s got into two really good positions on Saturday at Wolves and he got his goal today. Some great football for us that opened them up for his goal. Pleased for him as it’s not been a fruitful season but nice to have him scoring with five games to go.”
Relegation run-in: “We have a big game at home next week and I’m sure our place will be rocking. If we keep performing how we’re performing I’m sure we can get some wins.”
“We have good players and we can be a good team”
“We don’t look at Premier League safety as points on the table, we take it game by game”

@Cxllann: How did he score 17 premier league goals in one season
@_The_BigT: Striker unmarked at the back post and he does THAT. He’s nowhere near good enough

@Hfosterrob: Realistically we could play for years and he’d never score
@robdocs: They don’t call him barn door for nothing
