Burnley players taunt and Vincent Kompany laughs at Blackburn fans during the post-match interview after winning the Championship title.
The Clarets, who had already been promoted going into this game, were crowned the champions after beating their rivals at Ewood Park in an east Lancashire Derby.
Manuel Benson’s brilliant second-half strike for Burnley broke the deadlock, out of nothing just eight minutes after coming on as a substitute to score his 10th league goal of the season.
Blackburn tried to fight back with more chances, having five shots in the target compared to only one for Burnley.
Dom Hyam’s strike from a distance was saved, and Sammie Szmodics nearly flicked the ball inside the near post in the closing stages.
With just seconds remaining, Blackburn saw a strong penalty shout waved away when Callum Brittain’s cross appeared to hit Ashley Barnes’ arm.
The result means Rovers miss a chance to move into the playoffs. They have not won in seven of their league matches and they now sit in eighth position, outside the top six in goal difference.
In their remaining two fixtures, they host Luton Town in third place before hosting Millwall in seventh position on the 8th of May.
After the final whistle, Burnley boss Vincent Kompany said, as per LancsLive: “I don’t know if the lads realise it. I think Jay Rod does because he’s one of the people I was speaking to. I think Jay Rod understands what it means for the people of Burnley to come here and win the league at Ewood Park. You couldn’t write it!
“Even the scenario of the game; after everybody spoke about how good we were on the ball, today to see how good we were defensively, winning challenges, second balls, crosses, everything else, that’s a side of the team I’m proud of as well. It’s a day that will live forever. It’s a tremendous achievement for the lads.
“There are two awards that you win this season, which is promotion and then the league. Then there are two more trophies to win, which are the two derbies. We’ve won all four this season.
“I know what it means, I know what these games have meant for me in my career. I’m sure there are many people who will mention Benny’s name for a while in this part of the world.
“I didn’t lose my voice during the game, I lost it after the game. You have to celebrate! The guys have made memories and I’m really happy for them.”

On Manuel Benson’s goal, he said: “He’s only done it three times in a week. It was a choice that kept me awake at night because he’s done so well, but I’ve known Benny for a long time and I know the best version of him is when he’s fresh. I was thinking ‘did I leave him on too long against QPR?’
“I had a chat with him so my gut feeling was to bring him on and let Viti run his socks off and give us energy. You’re always right after the game, when you win, but I can’t say I’m surprised that he gave us that moment, he’s done it so many times this season for us.”
He spoke about the game and display of his side: “The whole world will question us on how we play on the ball, and I’ve said it since day one, if we don’t have the ball, we see just as many opportunities as being dangerous. We’ll always try and find a way to utilise the spaces, but if there’s no spaces, if we’re not playing we’re able to also either neutralise the game or gain an advantage when we don’t have the ball.
“I think that’s what we did and I think the more the second half evolved, the more we got dangerous as well. First half started really well for us and I’m talking off the ball. We had a period in the middle where we didn’t really get control of the game and then Corky came on, changed the game for us in terms of winning battles and then from that moment onwards I thought we were always looking the more dangerous side and I’m really proud of that side of our team.
“We’ve had to show it at Luton Town away, Stoke City away, they’re all 1-0 results and if you look at the amount of chances we give away, it’s not many at all. In fact it’s us blocking and stopping crosses, making blocks, so we’ve got good habits in that as well and we went back to basics today and that got us the result.”

He was questioned about what this moment is like after claiming his first silverware as a manager. His reply: “It’s two different careers so I have the same feeling that I had as a player, it’s very comparable. Although I will say being a player, nothing beats that, because the lads can just go and I’ve still got to prepare the next game!
“In a moment like this, I’m probably a little bit [jealous] because I know what the night is going to be like. I said it on Sunday when I was awarded the Manager of the Year award. As a coach you’re so much more dependent on people around you, so there’s so much I can coach but if Benny does not have his moment, I’m depending on this type of stuff as well.
“If Charlie Taylor does not put a block on the line or Aro [Muric] does not come out for crosses, I’m depending on this type of stuff. I feel more grateful to other people that probably than with any other achievement I’ve had, but that does not make it any less.”
On Burnley fans’ support and winning the title at Ewood Park, he added: “There was so much pressure for us going into this game, although we’d done so well so far, the pressure had been building up a little bit going into this game because if we ever had an opportunity, this is the one we wanted.
“We would have liked to have had the 7,000 allocation, I’m sure we could have filled that three times over, but in the end what got us through was that pack of 2,000 fans and us, we made memories for life and no-one can take that away from us. We won the league at Ewood Park.”
