Fan reveals why the Premier League needs Leeds – names who should be got rid and replaced

One Leeds supporter has recently revealed why the Premier League desperately needs his beloved club.

It has astonishingly been 16 years since their relegation from top flight in 2004 and since then have missed out on many a promotion back in the big time.

They have even had a three season spell in League One across 2007 and 2010 and now Pl>ymaker FC’s LUFC Lewis feels it’s time for the Premier League to have a “proper” club ‘to counteract the apparent dross’ of Burnley and Norwich (sorry, you’ve been mentioned).

The fan said: “With all due respect, the Premier League does not need the likes of Burnley, Bournemouth, Brighton and Norwich.

“The Premier League needs Leeds United and that isn’t me being biased. For what it’s worth I’m glad Sheffield United went up, I’m glad that Villa went up because they are proper clubs, real institutions that I look at and others look at and think ‘Yes they belong in the Premier League’.

“Now of course there are other clubs there’s Forest, there’s Derby, but now that Villa’s returned to the Premier League, there’s only one I’d say they’re badly in need of and that’s Leeds.

“Football clubs are losing their identity and Leeds United are unaffected, I think that has a lot to do with when we were relegated from the Premier League and as much as I want to return, I’m so grateful we left when we did because we haven’t been caught up in modern football just as clubs like West Ham have, they’ve lost their fortress in Upton Park, thankfully we still have ours in Elland Road, it’s home to the best atmosphere in England bar none.

“I mean, look at last year’s Champions League clash between Man City and Spurs. When Man City thought they’d won in the last minute, obviously the goal was ruled out to VAR. The celebration for that ‘goal’ were the equivalent of the celebrations when we are rewarded a throw in.

“Now, Leeds United are somewhat of a time capsule club and what I mean by that is 15-20 years ago football was completely different. You’d get the diehard supporter who’d go to a game, stand on the terraces and belt their heart out for 90 minutes. Now you’ll get people who’ll go to games purely to take photos or sit down and eat popcorn. They are not there to support the team, they are purely there for a day out and that’s not what football is.

“It’s because of this why stadiums like Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge and even Anfield are losing their famous atmospheres and they’re trying to counter this with gimmicks like clappers, drums, songsheets and singing sections.
