Ex-Everton and Chelsea player in hospital following car crash

An ex-Everton and Chelsea player is in hospital following a car crash in his homeland according to reports emerging on Monday.

Samuel Eto’o was sent for further examinations over a head injury after his vehicle was hit by a bus when he drove back from a wedding in Cameroon.

The collision is said to have happened near Nkongsamba, thankfully however he insists he is fine, and no one died as a result of the crash, a miracle after seeing the latest pictures of the incident.

Journalist Martin Camus says he has spoken with the 39-year-old retired footballer, who wanted to reassure people that he was doing well.

“The crushed car Samuel Eto’o was in. I can confirm that he is fine, we spoke again. Doctors taking care of additional examinations.”

Pictures show the huge extent of damage on the front of Eto’o’s car with security sources saying that a driver for one travel agency caused the accident.

The driver hit two cars including Samuel Eto’o’s convoy, then the driver tried to leg it away from the scene, before getting caught and officers took the driver away.

Eto’o was taken to hospital, where his condition was confirmed to be stable however he will need carefully monitoring.

Police gave the driver a beating, though as can be seen in the clip below, Eto’o went to the police station where the driver was sitting on the ground and traumatized.

Eto’o – who was with Barcelona for five years before leaving for Inter Milan back in 2009 where he was part of Jose Mourinho’s treble-winning side – sat on the floor next to him and comforted him, then he asked the police station to drop all charges against him and release him.

Eto’o was with Barcelona for five years before leaving for Inter Milan back in 2009 where he was part of Jose Mourinho’s treble-winning side.

He also enjoyed spells in the Premier League with Chelsea and Everton while bagging himself 118 caps for his country.

Eto’o won 11 major pieces of club silverware in his career including three Champions League titles.

On that season, he previously said: “That team was like a family, like a second home, all united, from the cooks to the warehouse workers. This was our secret.

“The treble is an extraordinary memory also because I lived it with incredible people.

“All my companions, of course, but also Massimo Moratti, who was like a second dad in my life.”

The forward went on to sign for Everton and added: “Honestly, signing for Everton was one of the best decisions I’ve ever taken.

“I had other offers, I spoke with Liverpool and other teams had been talking with me.

“But when I spoke with the Everton manager [Roberto Martinez], everything changed, and I didn’t look at any of the other offers I had.

“When I met him, I immediately fell in love with Everton. I was excited by his plans for the club and his ideas on the game… that is what took me to Everton.

“I was disappointed to be at Everton for only a short period. When I came, I knew I was joining another big club, no doubt.

“I had played a lot at all my previous clubs and managed to entertain the fans while achieving a lot of different things.

“But at Everton, even though I played in a few games, I don’t think the fans ever saw the real Samuel Eto’o. A bit like at Chelsea, I don’t think they saw the best of me there either.”
