Everton fans hit back at Neal Maupay’s latest Twitter post as he reacts to speculation he’s about to leave for Marseille.
On Thursday lunchtime, Fabrizio Romano tweeted: “Neal Maupay to Olympique Marseille, here we go! Deal done on loan with mandatory buy option from Everton.
“€4m fee as #EFC were only accepting a permanent move, Maupay agreed terms days ago.
“All set for medical, as L’Équipé reports.”
To which Neal Maupay posted a famous scene from The Shawshank Redemption film. And it seems to have caused quite the stir on social media…

Neal Maupay is close to joining Marseille with an agreement has been reached between the two clubs over a season-long loan deal containing an obligation to buy.
The Toffees are expected to receive an initial €6m (£5m) and possess a sell-on fee for the Frenchman. The total package of the deal worth in the region of €10m (£8.4m).
Maupay made 32 appearances for Everton. He scored one goal.
This speculation comes ays after video footage emerges of Everton fans abusing their own players at the train station after their 4-0 defeat away at Tottenham.
Despite it being just the second game into the 2024/25 season, several of their so-called supporters were furious as players were getting the train at Euston ready for the trip back to Merseyside.
Neal Maupay, an unused sub for the game, appeared to take the brunt of the abuse…
