Eni Aluko fears male pundits, coaches and agents are taking over women’s football

Eni Aluko fears male pundits, coaches and agents are taking over women’s football, giving her thoughts thoughts on LinkedIn.

She feels that there isn’t enough females being used on TV, adding that ‘we have gone backwards’ 10 years on from when she made her debut on BBC Match of the Day.

Tongue Tied Management, a sports management and production company, posted: “10 years ago today Eniola Aluko MBE made history becoming the first woman to be a pundit on Match of the Day.

“As an agency we had pushed for this for years and Tongue Tied Management very own Jo Tongue MBE was working hard behind the scenes to make this happen.

“Since then Eni has paved the way for female involvement in the men’s game in both punditry and on commentary. A huge shout out to BBC, ITV, Sky, Amazon Prime, and TNT Sports for continuing to support women in the men’s game.

“There is still a long way to go but we are so proud of what Eni has achieved so far ❤️❤️”

Aluko replied by saying: ‘Forever grateful to Jo Tongue MBE & Tongue Tied Management for the love and respect acknowledging 10 years since making my first appearance on Match of the Day as the first female footballer to appear on MOTD. Jo and I believed that women should have a prominent voice in football.

‘I would love to be able to say in 10 years we’ve progressed in terms of women in football broadcasting. In some ways we have gone backwards.’

‘1. There are still only one or two maximum regular punditry spots for women across several broadcasters. Fyi Pundits and Presenters are two different roles.

‘2. Men are now dominating broadcasting (and coaching) in the women’s game because more money has become available. This includes male agents with exploitative financially driven agendas within women’s football demanding 20% commissions from salaries that are nowhere near the level of the men’s game. Women can never dominate the men’s game in the same way.

‘3. Sexism, misogyny and racism is still widespread within football fan culture. Some football broadcasters need to rapidly improve their duty of care towards pundits who receive such abuse. Sexism, misogyny, racism are not “part of the job”.

‘There is still a long way to go.’

Eni Aluko fears male pundits, coaches and agents are taking over women’s football. What do you think?

@Babasridonpapa:
I think it is the other way. Women are taking over the men’s game. We have female refs that are in charge of men’s games. I can’t remember the last time we had a male in-charge of a women’s game. We have female commentators at studios in a male’s game.

@ClaireMulcahy17: So she doesn’t want men involved in the women’s game, yet we have to listen to her on the men’s game

@MganaFelix: Just like we don’t want her into mens football

@TonyTCClark: Yet we’ve to have women all over the mens game 🤔!!

@JaneGinger50: Let’s have a truce. Women only on women’s football and men only on men’s football. Sounds fair 👍

@petera1872: 😂😂 there’s women on near enough every game and station now in key roles. Some are decent and deserve their place on merit but she is truly awful and if anything has taken it backwards it’s shoehorning women like her in who add nothing and can’t string a sentence together

@Twitsham83: Doesn’t like the reverse uno card 🤣

@SupportersQpr: Its ok for women to be all over the tb talking about mens football talking absolute shit though

@foreverayellow: generally confused, so she’s happy with women taking over men’s football, but when it comes to men in the women’s game she isn’t happy?! and im not saying there shouldn’t be women in the men’s game. got so many favourites who are good at what they do, but also their personality. bianca westwood had been one of my favs, the funniest before she departed sky sports a few years ago. laura woods, gabby logan, even years prior that, helen chamberlain on soccer am, when the show was worth watching.

@afc_ronnie: I certainly wouldn’t want to listen to an all female team discussing the tactical aspect of football. Call me whatever the hell u want, but I don’t fake

Dave Shaw:
Men for men’s football
Women for women’s football
Everybody happy 😊
It’s so easy

John Scaife: If you’re women leave our man football alone will leave your football alone and see how far you go

Robert Sheridan: Where is she watching every game has at least one woman in the team and in some cases one introducing and one on commentary Can’t remember the last time it was all male in any games

Clive Rushton: Just like what’s happened to the men’s game. Both should stick to there own games.

Aiden Zenevieva: At this point, their agenda is clear. They want power…

Andy Eames: Is that because the blokes actually know what they’re talking about..?? 🤔

Keith Davies: Is she sure that she wants to go down this road, because there are quite a few excellent women pundits and commentators out there doing a great job right now, but because she’s not one of them, she could spoil it for everyone…. Well done Eni Aluko, but you won’t be very popular with the women, already in high profile jobs in the men’s game, like Football Focus, and your also playing in to the hands of quite a few men, who don’t want women, in the men’s game at any level….
