EFL Awards 2022: The Winners List

The winners list are gradually being revealed for the much anticipated 2022 EFL Awards, which takes place on Sunday the 24th of April.

The 2022 EFL Awards celebrates and recognises the continued efforts and achievements of Championship, League One and League Two clubs, players and individuals during what has been an incredibly challenging season for everyone. 

The guests arrived at Grosvenor House with proceedings starting at 7pm and ending at around 11pm.

EFL Awards 2022: The Winners List

– First award of the night for Contribution to League Football, which goes to Burton Albion chairman Ben Robinson.

– The Your Move Community Club of the Season, with the overall winner to be named from these regional winners:
Middlesborough – North East & Yorkshire
Blackpool – North West
Derby County – Midlands
AFC Wimbledon – London
Plymouth Argyle – South West & Wales
Milton Keynes Dons – South East & East

Your Move Community Club of the Season is…. AFC Wimbledon!

PFA Players in the Community award, with the winner one of these three divisional winners:
Championship – Billy Mitchell, Millwall
League One – Ryan Inniss, Charlton Athletic
League Two – Omar Beckles, Leyton Orient

Charlton Athletic’s Ryan Inniss is the PFA Players in the Community winner.

Community Project of the Season… here’s your shortlisted clubs:
Championship – Preston North End
League One – Burton Albion
League Two – Swindon Town

And the Community Project of the Season award goes to Burton Albion for their support of the NHS vaccination roll-out. The Brewers’ stadium hosted more than 200,000 vaccinations during the pandemic.

Winner of the Sir Tom Finney Award, which is presented to an individual who has made a lasting impact on the EFL and football overall, is Jobi McAnuff, who has played for the likes of Reading, Stevenage, Watford, Crystal Palace, West Ham, Cardiff and Leyton Orient.

WINNER – Ipswich Town
Milton Keynes Dons
Sheffield United

EFL say “Central to Ipswich’s family offering is their fan zone, and for anyone who has been to Portman Road will be familiar with it, outside on the synthetic pitches, with loads of kids enjoying a kickabout before the game.”

Supporter of the Season. Here’s the shortlist:
Mark Crowther – Luton Town
WINNER: Cath Dyer – Swansea City
Sue Taylor – Burton Albion

Cath is recognised for her sterling work, liaising between the club and fans, in particular her contributions for the Swans’ Disabled Supporters’ Association.

Luton Town boss Nathan Jones hands out the EFL Sustainability Award – and it goes to Cambridge United.

Diversity Award
WINNER: Blackburn Rovers
Exeter City
Preston North End

Blackburn Rovers receive the Diversity Award for their work engaging with their local communities and increasing representation among their supporter base. 

LFE Apprentice of the Season – League Two
Alex Aitken – Stevenage

LFE Apprentice of the Season – League One
Freddie Draper – Lincoln City

Fulham’s Sky Bet Championship Player of the Season Aleksandar Mitrovic says on stage: “It’s an amazing season on a personal and team level. We’ve created our style of play ad it’s perfect for me.

“As a striker you always want to score more and more goals – I go into every game trying to score every possible goal. After the last season in the Premier League it was hard, it is not easy to come into the Championship, we know how hard this lesague is and I think we showed really good character.”

On chasing Guy Whittingham’s 42-goal record in the Championship, he added: “Everyone is starting to speak about the record, so why not break this record? I will try to score as much as I can.”
