He said before the game: “Good luck to our friends @crawleytown later on, We would always want you to win, but today even more so 😘 – MW”

Then after the match, he added: “Well done @crawleytown – fair play having a training match before your trip to Wembley. Hopefully lots of Wanderers fans make the trip – MW 😘”

What’s the link? Well not only is Crawley local to Dorking, with Dorking not too long ago playing right at the bottom of the pyramid in the Crawley and District League before they rapid rise up the leagues, but he is also a Wimbledon fan.

He said: ‘I used to go home and away with Wimbledon, and I was disillusioned by the whole franchise thing. The last few years there became everything you hate about football.

‘I was just a Wimbledon fan and they were in dire straits around the time of the franchise (MK Dons),’ White said to Mail Sport. ‘So me and my friends said, “We’re not going to follow Wimbledon any more”, and started our own Saturday team in a park league.

‘I paid a fiver a week, we rented a pitch for £50 and got the local pubs to give us some kit.’

‘We’d gone from playing in the Crawley and District League where you drag the nets out, put them up and realise you’ve run out of pegs, to playing live on TV at Notts County, Oldham and Wrexham in front of 10,000 last year,’ he continued. ‘It’s as phenomenal as you can get in terms of trajectory. It’s hard not to pinch yourself and think, “Blimey, this took off didn’t it?”. It’s quite incredible.’

White says: ‘Do I love myself being out there, being outspoken? Not really. I’m not on social media. That’s not my way, but it did help the profile of the club, which obviously really does matter.’

Milton Keynes Dons will be competing in League Two for the 2024/25 season following a disappointing 5-1 defeat at home in the second leg of the playoffs semi final.

They faced a significant challenge after trailing 3-0 from the first leg at Broadfield Stadium, ultimately resulting in an 8-1 aggregate loss, marking the Dons’ worst playoff outcome to date.

MK Dons have now competed in the playoffs six times without reaching a final.

This is Crawley’s first-ever appearance in the playoffs but now they have the opportunity to return to the third tier for the first time since 2015.
