Weston-super-Mare have also bene impressing with the latest signings they’ve made. One being midfielder Ollie Chamberlain, arriving from Taunton Town.

The club said in a statement via their website: Ollie has been a mainstay within the Peacocks midfield across the last nine years, playing a huge part in their success which has included two promotions, two FA Cup First Round appearances, and two years in the National League South.

Describing himself as a “high intensity” player, Ollie is capable of featuring in midfield as a box-to-box midfielder, in the No.10 role as an attacking midfielder, on the wing or even as a right wing-back.

On securing Ollie’s signature, Manager Scott Bartlett said:

“Ollie is a brilliant signing and will be a fans favourite.

“He has been a top performer for years and again this season in tough circumstances, understandably had a lot of options and we are delighted he has chosen us as the best place for him.

“Ollie is versatile which is important to us, he has an eye for a goal and is very industrious. We think his energy, consistency and directness will add to our team.

“We explored getting him during January but he wouldn’t leave his club during the season and I admire that, he will be a real asset to us and is a top, top signing”.

Ollie said:

“I can’t wait to get started here at Weston.

“It’s a team I know well and seeing their progression over the last few seasons, it’s clear to see that they’re a club on the up.

“The facilities are great as well as the fans and I’m excited to be a part of that, and help the team kick on again.

“I look forward to seeing you all”.

About Ollie

Ollie began his youth career playing youth football for Bishops Lydeard and Galmington Dragons in between a short spell in the Exeter City Academy at a young age, before he joined Taunton’s Under-18 setup in the summer of 2011. He helped the young Peacocks side win the Somerset Floodlight Youth League South Division title in the 2011-2012 season, while also making five appearances and being an unused substitute twice for their first team during the same campaign.

In the summer of 2012, he signed for Southern League Division One South & West side Bridgwater Town where he managed to score one goal in 17 games, an unused substitute 13 times. He helped the first team finish runners-up in the 2013 Somerset Premier Cup, and also featured once for the Bridgwater Reserves in the Somerset County League Premier Division.

He joined Western League Division One side Wellington in the summer of 2013, netting regularly from an attacking midfield position, before returning to Bridgwater Town in the 2014 summer and going on to play regularly in their midfield for the next 18 months.

In November 2015, he returned to hometown club Taunton Town in the Southern League Division One South & West, becoming a key cog under Leigh Robinson and his successor Rob Dray.

With Ollie at the heart of their side, Taunton reached the Southern League Division One South & West Playoff Final in 2016, reached the FA Cup First Round in 2016, they were knocked out of the Southern League Division One South & West Playoff Semi-Finals in 2017, lifted the Somerset Premier Cup in 2017 against Weston, eventually won the Southern League Division One South & West title in 2018, reached the Southern League Premier South Playoff Semi-Finals in 2019, made the Somerset Premier Cup 2019 Final, won the Southern League Premier South title in 2022 and made the FA Cup First Round in 2022.

Everyone at Weston-super-Mare AFC would like to welcome Ollie to the club, and wish him all the best when pulling on the Seagulls shirt.

The other new name in at Weston-super-Mare AFC is midfielder Luke Coulson has become the club’s first summer signing, joining from Dartford FC.

Born in Weston, Luke has spent the majority of his career away from his hometown club since moving to Manchester at a young age, predominantly playing his senior career in the London and Kent region of the country.

Coulson has previously held the title of being Eastleigh’s record signing and record sale, joining them in January 2016 before moving on to Barnet in January 2017.

Having spent his career amongst the top two levels of non-league football, the 30-year-old is capable of playing on either flank or as an attacking midfielder behind the striker.

On securing Luke’s signature, Manager Scott Bartlett said:

“Luke is a player I know well and has been one of the top players in non-league for a number of years. This is a fantastic signing for us. He’s at a good age, with good experience.

“His family live in Weston-super-Mare and Luke has moved back closer to home – We had to move quickly because he had so much interest and we are delighted to welcome him to Weston-super-Mare AFC.

“He will help us to attack quickly and get behind teams earlier. Luke has a lot of ability, can play in a number of attacking positions and will add a directness to us.

“He can score and create, and works so hard for the team. With good set play delivery, engine and experience, he will add a lot to us”.

On signing, Luke said:

“I’m absolutely delighted.

“The conversations with the gaffer have gone on for a few weeks, but I’m really excited to get it over the line.

“He (the gaffer) was a major reason why I signed here.

“I was born in Weston originally, all my family live here. We’ve relocated closer to the family.

“I was having conversations with a few clubs, but there was a major appeal to be here (at Weston).

“I like to create, that’s the aim of my game. I’ve always been a guy who assists more than scores, but I just like to dominate the ball.

“I like to be on the ball at all times, I like to go looking for the ball and I like to be a key part of everything that happens. As long as the team wins, that’s the most important thing.

“I can’t wait to get going”.

About Luke

Luke joined the Manchester City Academy at the age of seven in 2002 and spent the next 10 years with the Citizens, including a two-year scholarship within the Under-18s until he was released in the summer of 2012.

Upon leaving Man City, he enrolled as a student at the University of Michigan the same summer and featured for their Michigan Wolverines Team, where he scored one and assisted two in six games.

After a couple of months however, he returned to England when going on trial with Stoke City, before signing for Championship side Cardiff City in November 2012 and joining their Development Squad. While at Cardiff, he made one appearance as a substitute in their FA Cup Third Round defeat to Macclesfield during the 2012-2023 season. He left the Bluebirds in the summer of 2014 to pursue first-team football.

Luke spent the first half of the 2014-2015 season trialling with various clubs including Ipswich Town and Hibernian before signing for Western League Division One side Radstock Town in December 2014 on a game-by-game basis, making just the one appearance for them.

He signed for National League North side Oxford City in January 2015, starting out as a right-back before making the move further forward to the wing. His early performances during the 2015-2016 season saw him depart for Eastleigh in a club-record buy for the Spitfires.

Coulson spent the next year performing at a high level for the Southampton-based club, earning a move to League Two club Barnet in what turned out to be a club-record sale at the time for the Spitfires.

His time at Barnet was short-lived, eventually joining National League club Ebbsfleet United in the summer of 2017 where he enjoyed the next 18 months, including a finish in the 2018 National League playoffs until defeat in the semi-finals.

In December 2018, he made the move to Bromley FC where he went on to win their player of the year in the 2018-2019 season, as well as the FA Trophy in 2021-2022.

In the summer of 2022, he made the switch to Dartford FC where he has spent the past two seasons, including captaining them for the 23/24 campaign.

He has also recently turned his hand to coaching, managing the Bromley Under-17s side over the past two seasons.

Most of the group committed their futures to the club during the season. It gives us a good platform to keep moving forward as we continue preparations for next season which is the start of a new project for us.

“We still have some loose ends to tie up but recruitment has started. We will be announcing new signings in the near future.

“Most importantly I’d like to thank the lads that are leaving and those that came to us on loan to continue their development. They have been a credit to their parent clubs.

“We have already mentioned Dayle and he will be missed after years of fantastic service.

“Rex and Opi deserve more game time than I can offer and will do brilliantly elsewhere.

“Similarly, Jamie and Alex are in need of more regular game time and will be allowed to leave the club if and when the right opportunity presents itself.

“I’d like to give a special mention to Marlon who has become someone I respect hugely. We discussed the possibility of a coaching role and he will be a welcome addition to our staff when the time is right. For now though I’m sure everyone would agree he still has some years ahead of himself as an excellent striker.
