Penalties were needed to settle the 23/24 FA Trophy Final, coming just hours after a comfortable win in the FA Vase final.
In the FA Vase at Wembley, with a lunchtime kick off, Romford beat rivals Great Wakering Rovers 3-0 to lift the trophy, marking one of the greatest moments in the club’s 148-year history.
The 9th tier club netted twice in two second-half minutes to stun their fellow Essex Senior League side with Hassan Nalbant’s first of two goals breaking the deadlock, and then Sam Deering doubled the lead on the 54th minute.
Nalbant scored his 32nd goal of the season with the outside of his foot after being put through as the game came to an end.
This was Romford’s first win in a national cup competition for 75 years after they lost the FA Amateur Cup final in their last appearance at Wembley.
