David Moyes praises Jarrod Bowen for his reaction to ‘disgusting’ chants directed at him from Luton Town fans on Friday night.
The West Ham boss was glad to see Bowen silence the home crowd after singing about his girlfriend Dani Dyer with the 201 vicotry sending the Hammers to the top of the Premier League table.
The 26-year-old winger, who recently became a Dad to twin daughters with the former Love Island star, was subjected to songs of ‘Jarrod Bowen, your girlfriend’s a w****’ at Kenilworth Road – hosting it’s first ever Premier League game.
Bowen netted the opener for West Ham and chis celebration saw him shush the home supporters with his finger.
Luton Town fans: “Jarrod Bowen, your girlfriend’s a whore.”
What kind of chant is that? #WHUFC

Luton fans to Kurt Zouma last night…
‘Zouma, you’ve got to kick it like it’s a cat’
— Football Away Days (@FBAwayDays) September 2, 2023
Moyes said after their win: ‘What do you do? You go and you score and you know that answers the questions. Players get criticism, managers do as well, and people get away with it.’
Moyes added: ‘Jarrod took his goal well. He was always a threat. He’s started the season in good goalscoring form.’
Luton also took aim at Kurt Zouma over the footage which emerged in 2022 of him kicking and slapping his cat.
The 28-year-old defender, who is now a captain for West Ham, scored their second goal and also celebrate towards the home crowd.
‘I don’t know if it fired them up but I do know it was a great ball by James Ward-Prowse and a brilliant header, a great leap,’ Moyes said. ‘It took the game away from them. We were the better team. We should have been further in front.’
Luton thought they should have been given a penalty in the fifth minute of stoppage time after a handball by Ward-Prowse. Referee Paul Tierney awarded nothing and VAR John Brooks didn’t intervene.
Luton boss Rob Edwards: “I can’t keep saying the same things but the goals we conceded were disappointing. We kept pushing to the end but it was a tight game and we could have come away with something.
“We know it’s a big task, we know it’s difficult but there was nothing in the game tonight. We can brush up, we can learn and we will. We’ll get back to basics but that’s an improvement in the three games.
“There’s nothing to fear. I’m glad we’ve experienced that at home.”
On if his side should have had a late penalty, he added: “I’m hearing a lot of noise about it before we came in. If we are on the wrong end of a decision I will be very disappointed as those are huge for us. But I can’t stand here and blame it.”
Mads Andersen’s late header gave Luton hope in the 92nd minute, but it was too late to try and get that equaliser.

This is what Twitter users said as David Moyes praises Jarrod Bowen for his reaction to ‘disgusting’ chants from Luton fans…
@GameRiotArmy: Well that explains the celebration. Deserved to lose because of that alone
@robpatterson24: Disgusting.
@matt_adio: Luton fan here. It was grim and disappointingly loud. Loads in around me were wondering why it was being chanted. Hopefully it’s stopped ASAP.
@WestHamXtra: Ain’t got nothing else to sing about. Woeful side.
@UtdDeano: Getting too big for their boots
@Irons_Home: Relegate them immediately.
@wayne_lee1982: I was in that section last night, not my normal section of ground to sit in and the chant was completely uncalled for, it seemed to come only from that small section but wasn’t right
@PaulHammerASD: I thought Luton fans were better than that. Old skool my arse.
@DHurleybooks: Utterly vile.
@_miaclaydon: There’s nothing like banter in football, see James Maddison vs Bournemouth, for example. But this? This isn’t funny, witty or banter… It’s misogynistic and absolutely vile.
@louwhu16: Dani Dyer and Jarrod Bowen, two of the most humble and lovely people, completely inoffensive and Luton are singing chants like that 🫠 what a vile bunch.
Luton fans insult Jarrod Bowen’s girlfriend, he scores and silences them.
Luton fans boo Kurt Zouma every time he touched the ball, he scores and boos them back.
We get the last laugh… 🤫 pic.twitter.com/t91Xwspmwp
