Chris Wilder reacts to ‘noise of negativity’ from ‘Sheffield United keyboard critics’

Chris Wilder reacts when asked to respond to the ‘noise of negativity’ from ‘Sheffield United keyboard critics’ so far this season.

His side currently sit 10th in the Championship, with 9 points from 6 games, and face a Wolves side who are a place below them.

His comments come just a few days after he said “I don’t think anybody else in the division has had to deal with the situations that I’ve had to deal with this year”.

That was when he gave his thoughts on the recent interview with co-chairman Steven Rosen on issues the club have faced. See more on that HERE.

Interviewer: “Victory the other night at Blackburn, one defeat in eight games yet there seems to be this sort of noise of negativity surrounding Sheffield United right now. How much does there perhaps have to be an acceptance that you’re on another evolutionary journey, a building process and a bit of perspective with that?”

Wilder: “Nobody wants me to talk about that, so it’s not worth talking about it. It’s as simple as that. So, get judged on winning games of football. I’ve been honest in my approach, you know, there’s work to be done. And there’s reasons why there’s work to be done.

“I’m seeing it with my own eyes as well. I can see it’s improving. I see the attitude of the players, which is absolutely first class. I see them giving everything all for everything for each other and for the football club, is priceless.

“That won’t happen at every club in this division. There’s work to be done. There’s work to be done by me and the coaches.

“I think I’d like to think I’ve got a tiny bit of credit in the bank. But, you know, we’re in this world. We’re in this world of social media. My favourite one is, it’s not a chat at half five waiting for the Green ‘Un in the pub any more. So that’s how it is.

“There’s a lot of theorists, there’s a lot of experts, there’s a lot of ex pros. There’s a lot of opinions. There’s a lot of bluffers as well in the game.

“Watched a podcast with Dean Saunders and Graeme Souness, they’ve had decent careers those two guys and If anybody gets a chance to watch it, it’s quite interesting.

“So this is the world that we do we live in and we have to we have to deal with it. I have to be focused on what what I need to do. We’re not nowhere near the finish line because there’s a lot of work to be going into the players. A lot of decisions to be made.

“We’re working it out on the job. I don’t think I’m the only manager in the division that’s trying to work it out. There’s a few in better positions than me at the moment. And there’s a few in a lot worse positions at the moment.

“What I’ve got is what I wanted at the start of the season or what I wanted off the back of last season that all those players want to play for the football club.

“I didn’t have that last year. I worked that one out pretty quickly. I had to deal with it last season and this year they’ve got the players have got my 100% back in.

“Are they all playing to the top of their ability? No. Have they got that up? Have they got that in them to get to there? Yeah. And we will get better.

“It might be a little bit inconsistent at the moment. I understand that. I’m not watching it and seeing a free flowing team.

“But I don’t think anybody is at this particular moment. And that’s where I’m at with it. So I always try and make the shirt as light as possible.

“If there’s a certain element of our supporters that want to make it as heavy as possible, I can’t really do anything about that apart from, you know, put the team out there and maybe change.

“But is it my job to change their attitude? I always think that maybe if I did whatever I needed to do and the players were playing absolutely at the of their ability and form, I still think there’ll be a certain element out there.

“So I think something you have to accept and get on with. In football, I’m listening to talkSPORT this morning and somebody’s telling Pep Guardiola how he should have done it, this, that and the other.

“So I’m like, really? But everybody, that’s it. This is the way we work. I accept that and understand that it’s a game of opinions and everybody will have that at this particular moment. My sole focus on is for us to pick up points up to Stoke and then let’s see where we can take that from there.”

Here’s what fans are saying as Chris Wilder reacts to ‘noise of negativity’ from ‘Sheffield United keyboard critics’…

@juancl78: It’s not worth talking about… then talks about it for 4mins 😂😂

@Johncurtis1889: Ignore the haters Chris. Most sensible Blades are right behind you and the team.

@KathyRonson: Chris, you obviously look at social media. Perhaps a mistake, but know that the vast majority of us are behind you and the team. Isn’t perfect, but you’re one of our own and we trust you. The rest is white noise

@KopFinest: Yep yep and yep. Get a grip and back them. It’s gonna be hard. Some of you are spoilt i’m sorry to say. Let’s do it TOGETHER. Have a good’un Sunday 🫡⚔️

@shane_robshaw: No better man in charge of our club at this moment in time. Back him and the team. ⚔️⚽️

@DannyMac1889: Can never fault Wilder with how he comes across yet again bang on. Instead of slagging em off at every opportunity you get, get behind the cunts! Yes we ain’t playing anywhere near our best at times but still sat 4 points off top. Get a grip ffs UTB ⚔️

@Mr_55p: Some overdo the criticism, others the praise. Judging on 6 games is crazy. I’m not calling for him to go, but I’ll criticise when needed. Bar the odd flash like the playoff semi, we haven’t been consistently good since Cov at home in 25. You’re not less of a fan for saying that

@smiffy2609: It is what it is as they say. Everyone is entitled to their opinion ‘valueless though it may or may not be’ We battle on UTB

@56Rainman: Disappointing those rounding on the Manager Coaches & the Team… This squad has it’s flaws but has been part rebuilt this season with no money.. It’s on the skint owners & no one else that they’ve cashed out on our best 3 creative players…

@JackWalters92: He’s not wrong but that’s up and down the country with this app. It’s a sport which divides opinion and that opinion spreads further afield than it used to. Equally, this is our first season in a while where we aren’t a favourite which younger ones aren’t used to in the fan base.
