Chelsea and Sheffield United fans exchange hilarious self-deprecating chants during 2-2 draw

Chelsea and Sheffield United fans exchange hilarious self-deprecating chants during the 2-2 draw at Bramall Lane on Sunday evening.

The two fanbases saw the funny side of their respective underwhelming campaigns in the Premier League, as both teams fought hard and desperately sought points to salvage their seasons from becoming complete embarrassments.

Chelsea are hoping to get a spot in the top six to secure a place in Europe next season, and got off to a strong start against the Blades, with Thiago Silva scoring after just 11 minutes, marking his first appearance since the 12th of February.

Keeping in mind that Chelsea have only won five times on the road, it lead to the away end singing a chant: “How sh*t must you be? We’re winning away.”

Sheffield United fans then immediately clapped back, and joked: “How sh*t must you be? It’s only 1-0” with it being the 81st goal that the Blades have conceded this season.

The hosts were level through Jayden Bogle on 32 minutes, only for Chelsea to retake the lead thanks to Noni Madueke unleashing a powerful effort.

Just as it looked like the Blues had come away with all three points, Oli McBurnie then produced an equaliser in stoppage time, his sixth goal in the Premier League this season.

The result means that Chelsea are 9th with 44 points from 30 games played, three points behind 8th place Newcastle and Chelsea have a game in hand. Pochettino’s side are five points meanwhile from 6th place Man Utd.

Sheffield United stay bottom of the table, nine points adrift of safety with 21 points still to fight for.

Oli McBurnie speaking: “The last few games, we have been there or thereabouts. The boys put in excellent effort against Liverpool and now it is nice to get something for the fans.

“We always say, at home, we fancy ourselves against anyone, but that hasn’t always been the case this season. We need to make here a tough place for others to come.

“We need to start games off solid, work our way into games and, when it opens up, then get on the ball more.

“There is still plenty of games to play and it is about building on the performances. We are not looking too far ahead.”

Chris Wilder has been speaking to Sky Sports: “I think it was a deserved result.

“Second half was really good but I am disappointed in the first goal. We all look at set plays up-and-down the country and we all know how important they are – it is disappointing to get done again.

“First 15 minutes, I didn’t like our performance. After that, I liked our performance – full of personality.

“I would have been devastated if we didn’t get a result out of that game.

“I am looking at our individual team performance. We were really good against some big players and collectively we were the better team.

“We have talked about it after the Liverpool game and we went deep into that game. We had two good performances against Fulham and Bournemouth, we deserved a better points return.

“We all know the intensity of the division and we move on to Brentford next week. The belief will hopefully be good, they have shown a lot of qualities.

“There is a load of games left and we approach the next game as the most important and see if we can go get a result.

“The performance of the players ignited the crowd and the crowd lifted the players when it was needed.”

Chelsea’s Noni Madueke has been speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “I am not really bothered it [his goal] didn’t turn into a winning goal, but our Achilles heel this season has been cashing in on momentum. We had an amazing result [against Manchester United] and we needed to keep it rolling.

“We should have got the three points today, but we have to keep going.

“It will always be tough to come here in the sense that when Chelsea come to town and, no disrespect, when you are fighting for your life, you feel you have nothing to lose.

“It felt like a game we should have won and, right up until the end, it looked like it.

“There is positives. We are in a semi-final, an unbeaten run, but these are the games we need to grind out. We would have put pressure on the European spots with a win today.

“There still has to be belief we can do it. We need to grind these types of games out and get the three points.”

On mood in the changing room: “Silent to be honest. Of course, we should have won the game. The fashion we lost it in [is bad]. The way we drop points sometimes, it was in the palm of our hands.

“There is still games to go. We have to stick together and I have faith we can finish in the places we want to finish in.

“Eight games left is 24 points up for grabs, and we have to get as many as possible.”

Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino to Sky Sports: “If we analyse after the game, then a draw was fair for both teams. In the Premier League, you need to try to play well and also control games.

“All of the teams in the Premier League are good. Today we conceded in the last few minutes. We feel really bad in the way we conceded, but we need to keep moving.

“We need to be more clinical. The team is scoring a lot of goals but we are conceding too much. We need to find this balance.

“At the moment, we can’t get the right balance of scoring goals and conceding less. We are struggling in this thing and it is something we need to improve if we want to be in a different position in the table.”

This is how fans reacted on Twitter after Chelsea and Sheffield United fans exchange hilarious self-deprecating chants during Sunday’s 2-2 draw…

@crazycfctimes: This game is sh*t vs sh*t

@ChinonsoLucas: We’re shameless 😂😂😂

@B_rubble1: That’s all you can do. Cfc are a basket case of a club. Tbf they were under RA but he bought trophies so it covered up most of the mess. What’s left has now been exposed and the combination of youngsters, naive owners & a manager who isn’t up to the job has made cfc a joke

@AJK_86: This is more like it Blades, all good building blocks for next season ⚔️

@ForeverBlue_07: That United win papered over so many cracks and extended Poch’s time, the sooner he leaves the better for us. We’re going nowhere under him.

@FelixJohnston_:
2-1 up against 20th place Sheffield United in the 66th minute & drew 2-2.
2-1 up against, 10-man, 19th place Burnley in the 78th minute & drew 2-2.
Would’ve bottled a 2-0 lead against United if not for Cole Palmer as well.
All in the space of a week. POCH OUT

@CFCPys: Pochettino has just thrown the squad under the bus. His interviews are enraging. Let alone the fact we have no structure and style of play in 9 months, let alone the fact we’ve completely regressed defensively, rely on individual brilliance to win matches, his media interviews are even worse.

@TomBlade1889: Proud of this performance. We played with no fear which is something we’ve not done anywhere near enough this season. Played our game instead of focusing too heavily on the oppositions. We deserved to win but I care more about the performance at this stage. #sufc #twitterblades

@AlexGoldberg_: Chelsea never deserved to win today. We were arguably WORSE than the WORST team in the league. Sheffield United had more shots, more shots on goal, more corners, more big chances created, more shots inside the box, more duels won, etc. Poch isn’t good enough.

@siphillipssport: Anyone want to still try and defend Pochettino? He’s tactically inept. I can’t remember the last time we actually played well under Poch. Completely out of his depth tactically and he’s only still here because certain people are trying to save face. Hold your hands up, like I am.
