Cardiff City confirm the appointment of new manager Steve Morison, with it going down a hit with fans as it was confirmed on Friday.
Morison was named interim boss when Mick McCarthy left the club last month. Cardiff have picked up four points from three matches under Morison, with Saturday’s win over Huddersfield ending a winless run of 10 Championship games.
Now the former Wales striker is set to extend his reign with assistant coach Tom Ramasut, who worked alongside him for Cardiff Under-23s.

CLUB STATEMENT:
Cardiff City Football Club is pleased to confirm that Steve Morison has been appointed as First Team Manager for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.
Steve will be assisted by Tom Ramasut and brings on board former Bluebirds captain, Mark Hudson, who makes a welcome return to the Welsh Capital as First Team Coach.
Speaking of the decision, Tan Sri Vincent Tan said: “I have been encouraged by the team’s improved performances over the past three games, with the adoption of a more attractive and progressive style of football.
“What’s more, I think that the excellent work done by Steve and Tom at U23 level this season puts them in the very best position to help develop a talented crop of young players emerging at senior level. I’m also very pleased that Mark is returning to the club as part of the coaching setup.
“A healthy finish in the Championship this season is, of course, of paramount importance. A review of the side’s progress will be undertaken at the end of the campaign.”
The Club would like to take this opportunity of thanking all candidates who have shown interest in the manager’s position.
– STATEMENT ENDS –
Steve Morison spoke to Cardiff City TV about his appointment as Cardiff City FC’s First Team Manager.
“It’s great. I’ve had a little taste of it,” Steve began. “I really enjoyed the three games. I put my name forward and said that if they’d like me to continue, I’d be really happy and excited to be given the opportunity.
“I’m thankful to Tan Sri, Mehmet and Ken and to the players and fans who got behind me.
“The players have been excellent since day one, and since we were asked to look after the team. They’ve taken everything on board and I think you can see that in the performances. We changed the style a little bit and I think you could really see that on the pitch.
“The most exciting thing is that we’ve got the opportunity to progress that now and hopefully we’ll get better and better.”
The last game Morison and Ramasut oversaw at Cardiff City Stadium resulted in a last minute goal as the Bluebirds returned to winning ways. He continued: “Football is made by the fans. We play the game and we work within the game because of what it does for people.
“The noise when that winning goal went in on Saturday was incredible. That’s what you live for. My reaction on the sidelines was just a pure and natural reaction to that moment. The relief it gave everyone too. It was just a really happy moment.”
He concluded: “We’ve got ten games before Christmas. The challenge is to have more wins than anything else.
“First and foremost, let’s get ourselves out of trouble. Let’s get ourselves away from that pack around the bottom and get Cardiff City back to where it should be.”

MORE ON STEVE MORISON:
Steve Morison (born 29 August 1983) is a former professional footballer who played as a striker.
Morison started his career at Northampton Town at the age of 16, progressing through the club’s centre of excellence. He made his first-team debut in 2002. Morison joined Conference South club Bishop’s Stortford for an undisclosed fee in November 2004. After just under two years playing regularly at Stortford, he signed for Stevenage Borough for a “small four-figure fee” in August 2006. During his first season with the club, Morison scored the winning goal in the 2007 FA Trophy Final, the first competitive cup final to be held at the new Wembley Stadium. He also helped the club win the FA Trophy again in May 2009, in what was ultimately his last game for the club.
Having scored 86 times in 151 appearances during his three seasons at Stevenage, Morison joined Millwall for £130,000 ahead of the 2009–10 season. He helped the club to secure promotion to the Championship in his first season there. He signed for Premier League club Norwich City in June 2011. After scoring 12 goals in 59 games for Norwich in the top tier of English football, Morison signed for Leeds United in January 2013. He rejoined Millwall on a season-long loan after just five months at Leeds. He returned to Leeds for the 2014–15 season, before signing for Millwall on a permanent basis in August 2015.
Morison scored the winning goal in the 2017 EFL League One play-off Final to help Millwall achieve promotion back into the Championship during the 2016–17 season. He played over 300 games for Millwall over his two spells with the club, scoring 92 goals, which ranks him in third place in Millwall’s all-time record goalscorers list. Morison joined Shrewsbury Town on an initial season-long loan agreement in June 2019. Although the transfer was made permanent at the start of the 2019–20 season, Morison announced his retirement from playing in October 2019. Having already gained his coaching badges, he was appointed Northampton Town’s under-18 coach, before later joining Cardiff City as the lead coach of the club’s under-23 team.
Morison also earned eight caps for the England C team, scoring three goals. Morison qualified to play Wales through his Welsh ancestry, and made his senior international debut in August 2010. He went on to represent Wales 20 times, scoring one goal.
