The Carabao Cup Third Round fixture between AFC Wimbledon and Newcastle has been postponed as footage emerges of the stadium flooded.
Heavy flooding on the pitch has meant that the pitch is far from playable with significant flooding around the outside of the ground.
Reports emerged on Monday that AFC Wimbledon, Newcastle United, and the EFL are in talks about when then can play the rearranged match.

@CraigHope_DM: 🚨 NUFC’s Carabao Cup tie at AFC Wimbledon tomorrow is expected to be postponed after flooding in the vicinity of ground
@jordancronin_: 🚨 Eddie Howe’s pre AFC Wimbledon press conference has been CANCELLED. Highly likely tomorrow’s game will be called off due to significant flooding at Plough Lane. Awaiting confirmation from the EFL. #NUFC”
@ChrisDHWaugh: #NUFC’s press conference ahead of the proposed trip to AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup tomorrow has been cancelled, with the game highly likely to be postponed as well due to flooding in & around the ground. Unclear what happens if it is postponed in terms of rescheduling.
@JasonBourne1986: AFC Wimbledon v Newcastle appears to be in some doubt tomorrow. Newcastle have cancelled today’s press conference. Suggestions to us pitch will be unplayable tomorrow. Flooding in the area too. @talkSPORT
@DomScurr: 🚨 Here at the #NUFC media centre where Eddie Howe’s pre match press conference has been CANCELLED. AFC Wimbledon match in serious doubt with the pitch at Plough Lane unplayable due to flooding around the ground. Further information will follow in due course.
@dansheridan: Logistics would be a headache, but surely switching our @Carabao_Cup tie with @AFCWimbledon to St. James’ Park is at least on the table? Move it to Wednesday, make it free for ST holders and fly the opposition up as a gesture of goodwill. Got to be better than a bye #NUFC
@CharIieBennett: Tough to work out when the game will be rescheduled. Wimbledon do not have a free week until October 12-19. While their season continues, several Newcastle players will be on international duty. Fourth round starts on October 28. Glad I’m not in charge. 😅 #NUFC

Here’s how fans reacted with the Carabao Cup Third Round fixture set to be postponed as footage emerges of the stadium flooded…
@agbnufc_: A full week to prepare for City, 35% possession instead of 30% get in. #nufc
@BrooklynDon6: Damn. Hearing the constant, heavy downpour on the roof of my house all night, I thought this might happen.
@S0uthernGe0rdie: Thank god saves the embarrassment of going out on pens 😂😂😂
@LudiAlexander: Thank god, a week to prepare for City at home. 👏
@garethblackwood: Looks a bit awkward to reschedule…play it up here on Wednesday or give us a bye into the next round 😀 #NUFC
@ThroughBWEyes: Feel for those loyal fans already there, who’ve forked out hard earned money to travel… act of God but doubt they’ll be reimbursed except for the ticket 😔 #NUFC #HWTL
@Geordioca: An objectively excellent name for a stadium.
@MickAFCW: Surely Accrington and Crewe won’t go ahead. Would leave us with a build up in fixtures unless we could agree to play them away (is that possible?). Also not clear when the Newcastle game can be played, with fixtures scheduled every Tuesday except 15 Oct (international break)
@LaneHusband1: The sensible call’s to move it to SJP next week. Their next two League Two games are at home and that pitch won’t be playable anytime soon. Put game in its place and give them the gate receipts. Home advantage, their fans get a day out and time to plan leave, travel, etc #NUFC
@19Sheps: Fuck sake. Was looking forward to this one. Rearranging will be fun. We play every Tuesday until November thanks to the shit cup with U21s in it.
@ndent07: Why not switch this to SJP and give the gate fees to Wimbledon? I know it’s short notice but still think we’d get at least 30k there and we help out Wimbledon with extra revenue! #NUFC
@Andrew_McVittie: Given how poorly we’ve been playing this season, the game against Wimbledon offered us an opportunity to reset before the weekend. We need to resemble an effective team if we want to avoid a blowout against Manchester City. I hope we leverage the extra time in training. #nufc
@Sonnyjm7: Saves us the embarrassment #NUFC
@WomblesDream: Game off. A real shame but our main concern has to be player and fan welfare and let’s hope we can get the damaged area’s fixed asap.
@tinysima: There is a god 🫶🫶🫶 still hadn’t booked trains or hotels as couldn’t decide what to do due to needing to work elsewhere. Thank you 🖤🤍
