Bury produce record breaking 10-1 win over Skelmersdale in front of bumper crowd in 9th tier

Bury FC produce a record breaking 10-1 win over Skelmersdale United in front of a bumper crowd in the 9th tier of English football.

It was a day to remember for the Shakers, and one to forget for Pascal Chimbonda’s Skelmersdale with the latter well and truly thrashed on Saturday afternoon.

Coming into this game, Wythenshawe Town were top by a point, with Bury in second and have two games in hand over them, with Wythenshawe, Chadderton and Prestwich close behind.

Skelmersdale sat at the foot of the table with just six wins from their 31 games (two wins from three since the turn of the year) but saw their victory over Burscough on Boxing Day declared null and void following an ineligible player being included in the team, meaning they were nine points behind Burscough in their bid to avoid relegation.

Fair to say the difference in quality showed as Bury ran rampant at Gigg Lane when the two sides met.

Bury went ahead on 7 minutes, with Billy Reeves getting the ball in the middle and fed it through for Daniels, but couldn’t find a shot, it came to Comber who crossed to the back post, and Andy Briggs was there to head past Barnes.

10 minutes later, it was 2-0 Bury, Connor Comber shooting from 20 yards, with Barnes letting the ball trickle over the line. Keeper could have done better there.

Almost straight after that, it was 3-0 Bury, Scarisbrick through one on one with Barnes and he took his time before sending it into the bottom left corner.

Late on as the first half was coming to an end, Bury made it four. Dec Daniels breaking free, the Skem defence struggling, and he rolled it calmly past Barnes.

Just after the announcement of 3,219 being the attendance, Jacob Holland-Wilkinson made his way down the right channel, got onto the ball and sent it past Barnes. 5-0 on 66 minutes.

Briggs broke through the Skem defence on 70 minutes, before finding a ball to Lomax-Jones on the left, he takes a touch and volleyed it into the net.

Skelmersdale got one back with Bury switching off at the back, and then went down the other end after the restart and made it 7-1. Jacob Holland-Wilkinson breaking clean through, attempted to cut it back for Reeves only for it to be blocked then got the ball again, and scored.

Following a scuffle in the Skelmersdale area on 84 minutes, the referee sent off Claudio Da Costa, and awarded Bury a penalty. Jacob Holland-Wilkinson making it 8-1.

The 92nd minute saw Lowe head out to Holland-Wilkinson and got into the box, Lomax-Jones was on hands to give him the ball with a lovely finish. 9-1.

There was enough time for a tenth goal for Bury, another penalty, Sam Burns stepping up and scored to make it 10-1, a record scoreline for the club.

Because of Wythenshawe Town’s 4-0 win over Cheadle Town, Bury stay second and a point behind the league leaders, but still have two games in hand over them.

@shakerstu: Definitely worth a 180 mile round trip.

@FmmanagerKy: No excuse for conceding 1 there.
