Burnley receive a huge backlash after sacking their manager in a bid to stay in the Premier League and avoid relegation to the Championship.
Dyche had been with the Clarets since 2012 and guided them to two promotions to the top flight. He was the league’s longest-reigning manager.
The 50-year-old departs Burnley with the club in the relegation zone, sitting 18th in the league, four points behind 17th-placed Everton with eight games left to play.
They fell to a 2-0 defeat against Norwich City in Dyche’s final game with Burnley only winning four league games this season, drawing eight and losing 14 of their 30 matches.
Dyche is the tenth Premier League manager to be sacked this season, following the likes of Xisco Munoz, Steve Bruce, Nuno Espirito Santo, Daniel Farke, Dean Smith, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Rafa Benitez, Claudio Ranieri and Marcelo Bielsa.
This was only Dyche’s second managerial role, having previously been manager of Watford between 2011 and 2012.
Burnley’s next game is against West Ham United on Sunday. They then come up against Southampton, Wolves, Watford, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.
CLUB STATEMENT:
Burnley Football Club can confirm the Club has parted company with manager Sean Dyche, assistant manager Ian Woan, first-team coach Steve Stone and goalkeeping coach Billy Mercer.
Dyche was the longest-serving manager in the Premier League, having been in charge of the Clarets for nine-and-a-half years, overseeing a period which will go down as one of the most successful in the Club’s history.
During this time, the team was promoted twice from the Championship, achieved two top-half Premier League finishes and qualified for Europe for the first time in 51 years.
Chairman Alan Pace said:
“Firstly, we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Sean and his staff for their achievements at the Club over the last decade.
“During his time at Turf Moor, Sean has been a credit both on and off the pitch, respected by players, staff, supporters, and the wider football community.
“However, results this season have been disappointing and, while this was an incredibly difficult decision, with eight crucial games of the campaign remaining, we feel a change is needed to give the squad the best possible chance of retaining its Premier League status.
“The process of replacing Sean has begun and further announcements will be made to supporters in due course.”

Twitter users reacted as Burnley receive a huge backlash after sacking their manager…
@PremLeaguePanel: Dyche getting the blame for years of underinvestment which was only partially addressed like a plaster over a gaping wound with Cornet & Weghorst. Weghorst only came after selling a player too,more was needed to refresh the squad. Miracle that he kept Burnley in the PL this long.
@VizehYT:
Lads

@lukeCFC25: Crazy decision
@Pibasedlifeform: Don’t know quite what to say. But its just numbing, he’s been the best manager we’ve had for decades, and he’s given me European football and years well above where I thought we’d ever be. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything Sean Dyche #twitterclarets
@pokeefe1: You literally begged him to stay and sign a new deal 6 months ago. Without him your Premier League status would’ve gone years ago. This is why clubs should never expect any loyalty. He stood by you when you were shit. Every season
@7777dp: Shocked and not great timing.
@TenHagBaII: Dyche was the key to everything for you guys, good luck finding a man who can do just as good of a job. Have fun in the championship
@markybtree: Footballs gone mad 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
@lemboi11: Only he would’ve saved Burnley from relegation this season tbh. Should’ve given chance to complete the season.
@LiamCraneUTC: I’m completely in shock. It’s numbing. He’s the best manager I’ve seen at my club. I know results haven’t been great this season but this man had built a legacy and provided us with the most amazing memories over the last 9 years. I’m gutted. Thank you for everything gaffer. 💔
@JollySpaulding: Awful news, it’s all downhill from here for us. What a job Sean and his team have done for us, I didn’t see this one coming at all. Despite the results there’s no man better to get us out of this situation.
@ClaretFPL: Thank you for everything Dyche, for Europe, for the belief, for the 23 undefeated, for everything
@liam_W1977: Ridiculous decision. Thank you Sean for everything you have done for this club. You will be remembered for a long time
@SibsMUFC: Sorry WHAT
@gregthomson1979: Shocking decision from the chairman deserved until the end of the season at least, final nail in the coffin for our survival
@TalkingTHFC: Well done for confirming that you’ll never play in the PL ever again. Ridiculous and embarrassing.
@Whitbags_Runs: Unless there are other factors at play here, Dyche deserved the chance to get us back up. The best Burnley manager in my lifetime and the results this season are as a consequence of squad under investment over the last 5 years. If it’s a panic decision, it’s too late
What’s the point of doing this now?
