Barnsley set to reveal their new manager

Barnsley are set to confirm the appointment of Gerhard Struber as their new first team manager.

Europa League side Wolfsberger AC from Austria are understood to have let the 42-year-old to make way for the Championship side following a meeting this afternoon.

Struber has helped the club to a third-place finish last season after taking over in January 2019.

Sky Sports reports that Struber is currently saying his goodbyes at the club he only just joined earlier this year but had guided to third in the Austrian Bundesliga so far.

His side have chalked up some decent results in the Europa League this season, not least drawing with Roma and thumping Monchengladbach.

The deal between the clubs is close to being completed and there is understood to be a general agreement over compensation.

Barnsley currently sit bottom of the Championship after 16 games played, winning just once and are five points adrift of safety.

Sky Austria correspondent David Eder first reported that Struber failed to show at training with the Wolfsberger squad on Monday.

Barnsley, who have been without a boss since sacking Daniel Stendel last month, with many feeling sorry for boss and instead blamed the board for their transfer business, have been scouring Europe for his replacement.
