York City interim manager Tony McMahon makes players face anger from fans in the away end after a woeful 4-1 defeat at Ebbsfleet United.
After defender Franklin Domi saw his effort strike a post, Ebbsfleet went ahead in the 19th minute when Omari Sterling-James saw his cross spun over the line.
It was less than 10 minutes after that when York got themselves an equaliser, Zanda Siziba smashing one past Ebbsfleet goalkeeper Mark Cousins, however, Domi again put the hosts in front just before half time.
The Kent outfit went 3-1 up not long after the restart, through Chris Tanner getting on the end of a Sterling-James cross.
York nearly got a second with Kai Kennedy seeing his header strike the crossbar before Dominic Poleon made it four. Highlights of the National League clash below is seriously worth a watch…
“It was a very difficult afternoon, I’m really disappointed and I thought we were really poor to be honest.” McMahon told BBC Radio York via York Press.
“I’m not going to stand here and try and hide away from that, I thought we were really poor from start to finish.
“I’ll be honest, they ran more than us, they competed more than us, and I said to the players that they have to take responsibility.
“When they cross that white line, we set them up in a system. You can hide behind systems and formations and whatever you want but you’ve got to run.
“You’ve got to compete, you’ve got to track runners and three goals have come from that.
“It’s really disappointing, I’m not going to stand here and make excuses.
“I just thought it was poor from start to finish.
“They were soft goals to concede, you’ve got to track runners, the midfield players or whoever it is, you have got to track them.
“I told them at half-time they need to track runners, 30 seconds in they didn’t track a runner, goal, and it’s over.
“You’ve got to get close to people in your own box, and we’ve let them turn us and shoot in our goal.
“I’m really disappointed, disappointed with the goals but I’m disappointed with the whole thing to be honest.
“I wanted them to compete at the bare minimum, but they ran harder than us, they were flying into tackles and we didn’t really play at any intensity.
“You’ve got to get close to people and you’ve got to make contact, but I don’t think we laid a glove on them at all.
“They were soft goals, I can’t really stand here and defend the players, they were soft goals.
“Kai Kennedy was a positive, I thought he was really good and really bright.
“At least he had a bit of a bite about him, I thought he worked ever so hard in his first game and it was a big ask of him to play 90 minutes.
“He hasn’t really played any football and we made the change because we had to.
“There’s not a lot of positives really, I didn’t see any. I’m really disappointed here, I’m talking about a team that competed more than us and outran us.
“I gave them a message Friday, the message was very clear and you could see what their threat was.
“Their midfield kept running on, their forwards were a threat and they’ve conceded goals exactly how we told the players they would.
“They have to take some responsibility now.
“I made sure that all of the players went over (to the away fans).
“Sometimes you have to face the music and it’s not nice, but we thank the fans for making the long trip down and it’s not easy.
“They didn’t deserve to watch that performance, the players have to go over and appreciate it.
“I’ll speak to the owners and see what direction the club goes in next.
“I don’t worry about what I’m not in control of, I was only in control of Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
“That’s done now and out of the way, I’m really disappointed.
“All I can do is speak to the owners and see where we go from here.”

Only York City could have a change of owner with massive team investment only to become worse than we were last season.
We know it will get better but make no mistake today was bloody awful. #ycfc pic.twitter.com/3tkujPkPEr

1-0 down to a bad GK error but we manage to draw level. Great goal. Is this it? The response we’re all looking for after last weeks debacle & recent poor form? Not a chance. That performance was unacceptable. We looked bereft of any fight or passion. A complete piss take. #ycfc pic.twitter.com/J12dd3gcsE

This is what Twitter users said as the York interim manager makes players face anger from fans after the woeful defeat at Ebbsfleet…
@Browny_90:
0 wins in our first 7 league games.
Makes it our worst start to a season (win wise) since 1987.
The only team in the NL/NLN/NLS without a win.
All throughout the banter era we’ve never been this bad from the off.
That new manager cannot arrive soon enough. #ycfc
@garyrodgers49: The players are young lads just trying to make a living. A mistake has been made at the start of the season…this is understandable. People make mistakes and learn from them. I’m confident it will be put right and the owners are on it. Keep the faith. @matt_uggla #ycfc
@harrogate2: No shape. No discipline. They’re all over the place. This needs sorting quickly. Let the new manager get them fit and playing as a team. A lot of money has been spent by Matt Uggla on decent players. They are letting us all down. The fans deserve better.
@roberth97081131: Apart from Dipo and one or two other…you spineless wankers. You are not fit to wear the shirt. Shame on you. I hope the 228 made it clear what you are.
@yokcitytilidie: Half a dozen so called captains at the club yet not one leader amongst them. Paddy shouldn’t play again, defence a joke……. new manager has a huge job sorting this shower of shit out.
@collette_gray1: Wtf is going on?? Sick of spending hard earned money & travelling long hours down south to see performances like this. Gutting. Fans put in 100%, so should the team.
@LewMills84: We can’t concede over two a game, and we are drifting. Don’t often speak plainly but it’s not good enough.
@HarrietWhittam2: Sort it out. Get a proper manager in and gel these players now (I never get angry on here so we know its bad).
@AGShizzle: *sarcastic applause* bravo lads bravo!!! Well done!! Just here for the money!
@ycfcweloveyou: Come on lads you need to step up this is not good enough! What is it that’s missing you tell us because we turn up week in week out to support you and your giving nothing back! SOS please!
@mally308: New manager and new ethos needed asap. Plenty of talent in the team and the squad. Stop relying on the old players that have been there years. Paddy should not be starting. Brought in a keeper so why still use Whitley who is far too green still. Defence training go back to basics
@neilguy78: Sorry I know the guys are trying but that was an awful watch. It needs sorting and sorting quickly, lack of system & if this continues someone like Dipo & others who are clearly talented will leave in Jan. Very poor.
@Grayfamily16: Had a few Ebbsfleet fans come up to us after the game thanking us for travelling & trying to convince us that York will be ok this season. Glad they’ve got confidence in us, because I’ve lost all faith. 3 points out of a possible 21 😑
@elrobertooooo: Kennedy and Dipo only ones who looked like they gave a shit tbh. Cordner as well, trying his best to push forward and no one moving for him. Latty-Fairweather awful. Castro awful. Whitley awful. Paddy 🤦♂️ we’re fucked. So deflated.
