Yerson Mosquera in altercation with Kai Havertz and grabbed Gabriel Jesus’ bum

Yerson Mosquera got in an altercation with Kai Havertz and then grabbed Gabriel Jesus’ bum in the Gunners’ 2-0 victory over Wolves.

Gunners fans hit out at the Wolves defender for going unpunished, early in the second half with Havertz attempted to impede Mosquera’s progress by wrapping his left arm around him, which led to Mosquera frustrated and pulled/pinned Havertz to the ground. Subsequently, Mosquera appeared to place his right hand on Havertz’s throat then fell to the ground himself.

Then Gabriel Jesus was booked for his reaction to having his bum grabbed by Yerson Mosquera when bending over. Jesus was sorted out his boot, when Mosquera reached over from in front of him and grabbed his backside, trying to push him out of the way as Wolves attempted to take a free-kick. Jesus subsequently pushed Mosquera to ground with Mosquera look to the ref with a stunned look on his face.

The Arsenal began their Premier League season with an opening weekend 2-0 win over Wolves, Kai Havertz put the hosts ahead and Bukayo Saka sealed the points in the second half.

David Raya also put in some big saves from Jorgen Strand Larsen and Matheus Cunha.

Player of the Match: David Raya (Arsenal)

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to BBC Sport: “At 1-0 it was not enough. We had enough chances in the first half to finish the game but we didn’t. Overall very happy.

“Kai Havertz was involved in a lot of positive actions, he scored a great goal. He is in a good place.

“We should have opened the gap in terms of the scoreline much earlier.”

Any transfers in?: “The market is open, it is a possibility.”

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, speaking to Sky Sports: “I am really happy. With the first game you have some uncertainty in how you will respond.

“We had our moment after 1-0 when we were not in control but after Saka’s goal we were much more comfortable. The way the boys go about their job is unbelievable, so very happy.

“We knew Wolves could change the game and they did in the second half but with our changes we became a bit stronger.

“We certainly are. We had a really good pre-season. There are things to improve for sure, but overall very happy.

“The lack of control in the second half [we can improve], we gave so many simple balls away. We also had to finish situations better but overall very happy.”

Arsenal forward Kai Havertz, speaking to Sky Sports: “We can be happy but there was some room to improve.

“The first 20 minutes were good. We had good chances. We then lost a bit of control of the game and our press didn’t work. Always 100% we defended deep very well. We didn’t give them a lot of chances and it is three points.

“Saka is unbelievable. There are not a lot of players like him on the planet and he is still so young. He can get better. It is very rare to see a young player like this perform every week at the highest level”

Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live: “It is what we wanted and we got the win and we are really happy with that.”

On Bukayo Saka: “We know his quality and Kai’s quality as well. They are really important for us and we trust them and we know they can decided games in a moment.”

On the new season: “We believe in ourselves and we know our quality and will go for it.”

On Mikel Arteta: “He is a really nice guy. Everyone loves him and we are just lucky to play under him. You guys can see how we play from the outside. We are just happy to have him as our manager.”

On a title charge for the Gunners: “This is the most difficult league in the world and we know how hard it is to play against City. We have to go game by game.”

Wolves boss Gary O’Neil said: “I thought we were good. I thought we were in the game at all times, carried a threat and needed a little bit more quality. Raya makes an unbelievable save from the header at 1-0. Obviously, Mateus misses a good chance, again at 1-0. I thought at that spell in the second half, we were one nil down, and we were pushing, and could feel we were right in the game. Then a disappointing second goal, obviously.

“I was pleased with most of it. It was always going to be a tough ask, and I can only ask my team to represent what we are and what we want to be, and they definitely did that today. Pressed quite well and loads of high regains against a good side. We were going to need to be good, and things go our way today, and we were good, but we didn’t we didn’t quite have the details in certain moments.

“Saka coming inside on his left foot is difficult to stop, of course, but we work hard on trying to get him down the outside in that moment. Head up from a cross where we don’t quite recover into shape off the back of a set play so tiny, tiny margins that decide the game. Overall, real good first effort against the team that I think will be very close to the title again this year.

“I thought the shape of the team, when we were in shape, was good. Obviously, the first goal comes off a set play, and we end up caught not quite back in shape, and not in set play shape, and Saka has too much time on the ball, and they score a good header. Normally, when we play big teams like this we would adapt more, change the game plan, be a little bit more safe.

“We weren’t that today. We went with exactly what we want to be and exactly what we want to do, and I was pleased with how hard we pushed and disappointed. I don’t like being pleased and taking no points, so disappointed with no points, but something to start with.

“We managed to clear a few bits up. Obviously, first half we were well organised and carried a bit of a threat, but apart from the big Jorgen chance, didn’t really threaten their goal. Second half felt that we were a threat always, mainly from pressing and regaining the ball, some good spells of possession, and then just maybe a little bit of detail, I spoke to the players about how important those bits are. When you regain the ball and you can put your mate in on goal, those first passes are so, so important.

“But really pleased with the playing group, really pleased with all of them – subs had a good impact – a tough test today, and we gave it our best shot and came up a little bit short against a very good side.”

Here’s how fans reacted on Yerson Mosquera in an altercation with Kai Havertz and grabbed Gabriel Jesus’ bum…

@Hymerich_: Genuinely, I can’t wrap my head around how Mosquera got away with pinning down Havertz by his neck and then grabbing Jesus’s ass #ARSWOL

@YasWWFC: How longs left on Mosquera’s contract btw ? Id give him a new one tbh

@Savwwfc: I absolutely love Mosquera just what we needed, have to find him a partner asap tho. Impressed with the other 2 debutants but need to add more to the squad. #wwfc #Wolves

@Wolvesineurope: Weird first game of the season. Think we actually played pretty well but of course room for improvement. Mosquera could become a cult hero. Excited for the season actually. Could be fun. #wwfc

@ADG_WWFC: It’ll be easy to focus on the negatives after a loss, but Mosquera was excellent today. He needs to iron out that petulance, but pair him with an experienced CB, he could grow into someone special.

@WWFCHS: Was hoping Mosquera would break on the scene today not quite the way I expected 😂 #wwfc

@_charlieflynn_: Mosquera has got this arsenal team on strings 🤣🤣🤣🤣#wwfc

@billsghost: one of those pickpockets Arteta warned them about.

@pureuranium: what the fuck are these refs playing at already? mosquera just choked havertz and walked away scot free but this was a red?

@_Chuzak: You know what’s more crazy, Mosquera didn’t even get a yellow card for that choke and ass fondling 🤦

@TheShortFuse: The more I see Yerson Mosquera grabbing Gabriel Jesus’ rear end, the more disturbing it becomes. It’s not acceptable to touch another person like that, being on the pitch doesn’t change a thing. The Premier League should consider supplemental discipline.

@DTOWN_1590: Doing this gameweek 1? Mosquera is about to be such an entertaining menace this season 🤣
