Yeovil launch serious investigation after claims made by Aldershot players

Yeovil launch a serious investigation after claims which has been made by Aldershot players following the National League fixture.

A member of the coaching staff has been accused of discrimination with Shots’ skipper Lewis Kinsella posting on his Twitter account on Sunday morning.

He said that the staff member has been “discriminative towards two of our players and one of their own” prior to his side’s victory at Huish Park on Good Friday.

He tagged in the Kick It Out anti-racism account to his post, before another player back his accusations up with a post of his own.

Lewis Kinsella said: “Before the game on Friday a member of @YTFC coaching staff was discriminative towards two of our players and one of there own ! This is disgusting and unacceptable and has no place in our game @kickitout”

Mo Bettamer, an unused substitute in the match, added: “After a few days to reflect and initial shock to my system, before the game on Friday a member of the Yeovil Town coaching staff thought it was okay to directly discriminate me and my fellow colleagues.

”To think it is 2022 and this is something we still have to deal with is disappointing but not surprising.”

In response, Yeovil Town posted a statement saying: “Yeovil Town are aware of allegations made by Aldershot Town players following Friday’s National League fixture.

“We take accusations of any form of discrimination extremely seriously and the club can confirm it has begun its own internal investigation.

“We will discuss our findings with Aldershot Town over the coming days in order to deal with this situation correctly.”

A large number of players have since responded to the posts by both Bettamer and Kinsella with likes and messages of support.

The game saw Aldershot move a step closer to National League survival with a 2-0 win at Yeovil.

The Glovers had an early opportunity after Tom Knowles cut in from the right and smashed his shot against the post.

Aldershot, who beat Boreham Wood in the game prior to thsi, broke the deadlock in the 65th minute when defender Giles Phillips headed the ball in at the back post from a free-kick from Lewis Kinsella.

Substitute Ryan Glover secured the win with 20 minutes left when he converted a cross from Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain.

He was then sent off late in stoppage time for collecting a second caution as the Shots pulled eight points clear of King’s Lynn.
