The game which Lee played in saw Wrexham beat Bolton 1-0, meaning the Welsh outfit are one game from Wembley thanks to Andy Cannon’s strike in the 70th minute.
“The early part of the game, we kind of had to work out their 3-4-3 system,” Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson said to the club media.
“We didn’t expect them to play that way and it took a bit of time to get to grips with that. But the in-game management, I thought, was great from the lads.
“We shout the messages onto the pitch but they worked it out themselves really. I thought we had some decent spells in the first half and probably went for the killer pass too many times rather than trying to get control.
“But we adapted that really well in the second period and I was really pleased with how we played against a good side. It was a real competitive game, it was hard fought, and we are very pleased to progress.”
“It was a good goal for us because playing against that system, the space is either side of their two holding midfield players in those pockets,” Parkinson continued.
“George Evans broke the lines with a terrific pass and the rest was down to Andy. It was a really good goal. We knew by half time where can we hurt them, what areas can we exploit?
“That was a great moment for us because it is something we speak about a lot. It was a terrific pass from George, who I thought was really good for us.”
On if the changes highlighted their squad depth, Parkinson replied: “The Port Vale game last week was a good performance but this was a level above.
“The likes of George, Seb (Revan), Mo (Faal) who hadn’t had loads of football, needed tonight in preparation for the last part of the season.
“It was definitely a step up and I am very pleased that those lads have come through the game with good individual performances.
“More importantly, the last time we lost and we have a proud record here. It was important we got back to winning ways on our home turf and it is a good win for us.
“One win off Wembley and we know that, you can never underestimate the chance to go and play at one of the most iconic stadiums in the world. We gave everything tonight to try to get us one step closer.
“Now, we have got players really up to speed for this run of games coming up because we will be utilising the group all the way through until the end of the season.”
Bolton boss Steven Schumacher said: “I’m gutted, really, to be out at this stage. We felt that this was a good opportunity for us tonight. We came here full of confidence and wanted to continue where we sort of left off on Saturday and use that momentum to try and start the game well.
“I actually thought we did that and the first 20 minutes, half an hour was okay. We played some really good stuff, tested their goalkeeper and had a few corners.
“I’d say we lacked a little in ideas for the last 20 minutes of the first half and the second half was probably similar. It was tight. There wasn’t much in the game and, unfortunately, just one moment of quality for them decided it.
“We almost took it to penalties when Macca hit inside of a post. It’s fine margins, but we just said there, though, that we’ve got to do a bit better, if we’re honest.
“In the second half, we huffed and puffed, but we didn’t really seem to have that little bit of energy, that little bit of guile to really cut them open and hurt them. I don’t think it was a poor performance in general. We just didn’t have that killer instinct.”
“The main objective is still to try and get promoted,” he added.
“That’s what we’re going to go for. We’ve got a tough game at the weekend away at Shrewsbury but if we can build on Saturday’s result and get another three points on the board and stay in the hunt, then that’ll be brilliant.
“Obviously, it won’t be an easy game. Shrewsbury are playing well at the moment and it’s going to be another tough one. It won’t be too dissimilar to what we’ve seen tonight but we’ll go there and give it our best shot.”
