Worrying details emerge on Raheem Sterling’s home raided by armed thugs with family inside

Worrying details emerge on Raheem Sterling’s home being raided by armed thugs with his family inside as he now flies back from Qatar.

The 27-year-old footballer has had his family home raided in a violent robbery while the Chelsea winger was at the 2022 World Cup out in Qatar.

According to Gareth Southgate, Sterling was forced to miss the World Cup last-16 clash over Senegal, which saw the Three Lions win 3-0.

The England manager confirmed Sterling is now spending some time with his family after the emergency and it is unknown when or if he will be back.

Sterling’s home based in Surrey was targeted on Saturday night, and Sterling had discovered to what had happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He was forced to miss the England team’s victory but is said to be hoping to be able to watch the quarter-final against France.

However, Southgate has been unable to confirm whether the winger will be back with the squad in time, and encouraged him to ‘have as much time as he needs’ and put his family first, surprisingly admitting ‘sometimes football isn’t the most important thing’.

Boss Gareth Southgate said before the game: “He is dealing with a family matter. I had quite a bit of time with him this morning but I have had to pass that on to other people to help him with that.

“He will go and deal with that matter and we will have to take it from there.”

Following England’s victory against Senegal, Southgate said more on Sterling: “The priority for him is to be with his family. We’re going to support that and leave him to have as much time as he needs. He’s going home. I don’t want to put him under pressure. Sometimes football isn’t the most important thing, family should come first.”

The raid at Sterling’s home, which is less than 15 minutes from Chelsea’s training ground in Cobham, Surrey, happened on Saturday night with it not known if his property developer Paige partner confronted the raiders or whether they managed to flee the scene when they realised they were not alone in the house.

Gangs usually break into and burgle footballers houses when they know they are either playing in a match or are out oft he country, and on this occasion have thought she and the couple’s sons, aged five and three, were out in Qatar, which is where she ad been before returning home.

Before England’s first game she uploaded pictures of the two boys on a cruise ship in Doha, and she was tagged in social media shots with cocktails.

A family source said: “This was terrifying for her and obviously traumatic for all the family.

“Raheem will have been beside himself with worry when he heard.

“To be away when your partner and children are at home when an armed gang breaks in is beyond words.

“It looks like about £300,000 of watches have been taken. The police were there several hours.”

The boss of a national intelligence unit which focuses on serious organised crime has warned of a rise in raids on stars due to gangs which scroll through social media feeds.

Supt Carl Williams, of Operation Opal, said: “In today’s world where many wealthy individuals are active on social media their significant public profile can help make them targets.

“Their high-value possessions are often on display as well as information about their plans.”

The FA said: “Raheem is not available for selection for the Three Lions tonight as he is dealing with a family matter.”

Just two weeks ago, Championship player Josh Tymon was burgled by thieves who stole £100,000 Range Rover, watches and handbags, he reveals online.

The Stoke City star has become the latest footballer to be targeted by a robbery gang, with the 23 year old writing on social media that his home was broken into by a gang who stole his vehicle along with other prized possessions.

He said the raiders smashed their way into his house in Cheshire through a back door in a post on Instagram, and now becomes the latest in a growing list to have been targeted. They also had CCTV but the culprits managed to block it by disabling the WiFi.

Twitter users reacted as worrying details emerge on Raheem Sterling’s home raided by armed thugs with his family inside…

@OldbutG02970015: Unbelievable people commenting without knowing all of the facts. ARMED intruders broke into his house while his family were home. You don’t know if anyone was assaulted/injured but you condemn him for wanting to be with his family. They need him, more than England do at this time

@theatreofchips: Bloody awful isn’t it. Planned and considered knowing he was away representing us. Shocking. Hope the family are good and the perpetrators caught quickly.

@jjfdh: You would think that the FA would or should employ security guards or even live in security whilst any player is away there is enough cash for that surely

@villawasp: Yes. You’d think the multi millionaire would have enough cash for that if he thought it necessary surely

@keaano: Gutted for him, just hope his family are okay 🙏🏼

@MarkBJohnson33: I remember something similar happening to David Beckham when Brooklyn was a baby. In his book he talks of being frightened for his family and just needing to be with them. No one should have to live with this sort of thing. Hope it gets dealt with appropriately for him.

@Disco_des: Southgate’s interview after the match about sterling was brilliant. No pressure, family comes first, do what he feels is best 👏🏼

@jimaldo7: Best wishes to you and your family Raheem, we’re all with you

@Bristoliang1en: Hope everything is O.K Raheem, and we’ll see you back very soon. 🙏

@ImTheBlueGuy: All the love to @sterling7 , utter disgrace that he’s been targeted whilst away on England duty and so sad if his family were home. Such a horrible experience and hope they are ok.

@Emma12150: Anyone who has serious personal matters to deal with deserves privacy & compassion. @GarethSouthgate is an awesome manager for putting family first ⚽️❤️‍🩹

@carole_2246: Here’s hoping all your family are safe and unscathed. xx

@SH_LIFE_01: Sending best wishes to @sterling7 Horrible situation to be in. I hope everything gets settled and you’re able to make it back even stronger!

@SteveCrowder4: Hope you and your family are all ok 🙏 @sterling7

@LJC_85: This is absolutely awful! First & foremost I hope that Sterling & especially his family are all as ok as possible. Secondly, karma is coming for monsters that think praying on young families & innocent children is ok. The monsters that did this deserve every bit that comes their way.
