World Cup 2022 draw live in full: England discover fate

It’s time for the much anticipated World Cup 2022 draw live in full as England discover their fate in this winter tournament’s group stage.

One of Wales, Scotland or Ukraine are to battle it out for a place in Qatar this November and December but won’t know until the remaining European play-offs in June.

29 of the 32 World Cup teams are known, with two intercontinental play-off matches also to be played out in June.

The World Cup takes place between the 21st of November and 18th of December in Qatar.

POTS

Pot 1 (seeded teams): Qatar, Brazil, Belgium, France, Argentina, EnglandSpain, Portugal.

Pot 2: Mexico, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Uruguay, Switzerland, USA, Croatia.

Pot 3: Senegal, Iran, Japan, Morocco, Serbia, Poland, South Korea, Tunisia.

Pot 4: Cameroon, Canada, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, Wales/Scotland/Ukraine, Costa Rica/New Zealand, UAE/Australia/Peru.

This World Cup has the same format as the past few tournaments, with teams drawn out into 8 groups of 4.

Teams are seeded based on the FIFA world rankings released on the 31st March. Hosts Qatar will be given position A1 from Pot 1 and the top 7 ranked teams who have qualified are the other top seeds. England are among them.

The three play-off winners not yet decided (Wales v Scotland/Ukraine, Costa Rica v New Zealand, UAE/Australia v Peru) will be in the bottom pot of seeds.

The draw starts with teams in the top pot and work downwards, ending with the bottom pot.

After a team is drawn out, a second ball will be drawn to decide which group they are in.

Teams from the same continent will be kept apart – except for European countries, a maximum of two can be in any one group.

The fixture schedule will be decided after the draw and won’t happen automatically depending on how teams are drawn out.

FIFA says this provides “scope to provide a more beneficial kick-off time for audiences at home”.

THE DRAW IN FULL:

Group A: Qatar, Ecuador, Netherlands, Senegal
Group B: England, Iran, USA, Scotland/Wales/Ukraine
Group C: Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Poland
Group D: France, UAE/Australia/Peru, Denmark, Tunisia
Group E: Spain, Costa Rica/New Zealand, Germany, Japan
Group F: Belgium, Canada, Morocco, Croatia
Group G: Brazil, Serbia, Switzerland, Cameroon
Group H: Portugal, Ghana, Uruguay, South Korea

@JCollettCFC: England, USA, Iran, giving a new and literal meaning to the group of death

@StokeyyG2: England, Iran, USA and possibly Ukraine? is this a World Cup group or peace treaty summit 😭😭😭

@nocontextfm1: Iran, USA and England in a group. There’s a clever geopolitical joke I’m missing here

@JTSHEEPS35: How can anyone say a draw is rigged for England?? There’s not a country in world who doesn’t hate us, no one’s giving anything in our favour 🤣

@SteveBloomerPod: We could be watching England v Scotland/Wales at the World Cup in November, but chances are we’ll be watching Derby thrash it out away at Cheltenham instead. If we still exist. Happy Friday! 🙃 #SaveDerbyCounty

@TheRainbowStand: England, Iran, USA and one of (Ukraine, Scotland or Wales) The best English group since The Beatles. #WorldCup

@8ufyz: Best or worst group stage we will ever have, no in between

@utdSh0la: Kane gonna statpad golden boot 💀

@WolvesNumber37: Easy 9 points 👍

@PUSBradders: The problem with this group is despite how shit Scotland and Wales are of either qualify big IF that is, even they can’t fuck up qualifying from this group. That’s a great shame cause I love laughing at them on the first flight home.

@GeorgeDukes2: England vs Iran opening day of the World Cup, last time we played on the opening day of the tournament… We WON IT!!! #ItsComingHome 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
